Anyway you slice it dice it whatever, that 1st half was one of the worst defensive efforts I've seen in awhile. Our team had no chance after the 1st half, down 35-3...Our defense looked High School. Lsu ran through us like we weren't even there. Major problems on that side of the ball including coaching. Everyone in our section said, that was a pitiful effort! giving up 35 1st half pts. doomed us. L.S.U. ran through our defenders like they weren't even there. Giving up 42 pts. to Ugag exposed poor coaching also. We need a Defense before we can be a true top 10 team.

Now you know why Tenuta blitzed so much... our secondary sucks and will always suck. We just will never recruit the speedy 4.3 4/5-star guys needed to have a decent secondary. I don't remember a single play outside of the 4th quarter when they were throwing deep where our corners or safeties actually made a play on the ball and did their job. There seemed to be 1-2 people wide open on every play.

I disagree about our secondary. Yes, we're very weak now, but given time and redshirting I think we'll be fine.

As far as not being able to recruit quality DB's, what about Morgan Burnett? Wake Forest has one of the best D-backfields I've seen this season. If they can recruit them, then we should certainly be able to.

We'll get there....I hope!

It doesn't help when your defense is on the field for the entirety of the second quarter.

Defense played like crap in the first half.

The offense played like crap the whole game. I think we did way to much passing. I wonder if we spent too much time in practice trying to add a new part of the offense. It certainly looked like we were running a lot of those plays for the first time at full speed. I only hope that this game and practice time helps us to have a passing attack to go with our running game in the future, even if we didn't show it last night.

Oh, and thank you Les for treating us like a bitch last night. Hopefully, we will learn that when you show up half assed for a game, you get whatever the other wants to dish out.

It is funny to me how people want to just lash out at the defense.

the offense got to the endzone ZERO times.

special teams was horrific....two turnovers in that phase of the game....both creating first half short fields.

At least the defense shut them down completely in the second half to give our offense time to put something together....32 point deficits have been overcome before. However, we simply could not move the ball consistently all night.

It is funny to me how you keep trying to protect the defense from criticism. Is it normal for a defense to give up 35 points in the first half?

Let me be clear, all aspects of our football game last night sucked. There's no question about the offense sucking last night. Regardless, I came to peace with the fact that our offensive line isn't what it should be for CPJ's offense and look forward to it when the right personnel is in there. My mind is prepared for inconsistencies in our offense.

However, I believed that the defense was the backbone of our football team that helped the rest of the team overcome mistakes. To see it beat so many different ways, I can't help but criticize it.

Honestly, what do you want me to say about the defense? Kudos? Thumbs up? Great job defense? Hell no, they sucked and I'd expect the the defense to be the very first ones to admit that they sucked instead of saying something delusional like "oh at least we were better than the offense".

I'm with Hivered. It was an absolute three way tie as which outfit played worse. Offense, defense, and special teams stunk to high heaven.

The 35 points was bad but do remember 3 of the drives were of 42, 24, and 19 yards or something close to that and come to think of it the first one was only 60 yards.

To deny that our defense wasn't just bad but horrible is laughable and you are losing credibility, you make some great posts but your defense of our NO DEFENSE is funny. At least the knowledble fans I'm around last night agree, that our defense is unacceptable and lost us that game in the 1st half. The worst performance by a GT defense in many years. The Ugag game was another bad performance by our defense too. The story on Wommack will be complete after next year, no more excuses after next year.

Another point I want to make, it was so true what the crew on Espn said the other night, scoring defense is SO underrated..Whenever you are not giving up much points you are going to win a majority of your games...That is why U.S.C. wins...Last night if our defense had not given up so many points our offense (Although we were not clicking last night on offense) may have done just enough to give us CHANCE to win..As it was our defense was so horrible that 1st half, we had NO chance.

The final indignity came with less than three minutes left. On 4th-and-1 at the LSU 10, quarterback Josh Nesbitt fumbled away Tech's last chance at a touchdown. Not since Nov. 1, 2007, in a 27-3 Thursday night loss at Bobby Dodd Stadium, had the Jackets been held without a TD. Their 35-point margin of loss and 38 points surrendered were the most by Tech since a 51-7 loss at Virginia Tech on Sept. 24, 2005. Yet despite all this, despite a fourth consecutive bowl defeat and now 0-4 all time in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Tech finished 9-4. It's the ninth-most season wins in the Institute's history. If Virginia Tech loses to Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl, no ACC team will have more victories than the Jackets.

Blah.

The defense didn't save us in the first half is what you mean 1gtfan. No they didn't play well, but the STs and offense gave LSU a short field on all but one drive. It was a team loss and anyone who thinks it was all on the defense is the one who has no credibility.

The disagreement comes in for me when someone says that the defense played better than the offense and doesn't deserve the same criticism that the offense gets. That's like comparing two piles of scraps and trying to figure out which pile is better than the other.

The offense sucked. The defense sucked. Neither sucked any more or less than the other. Of course, special teams sucked more than those two combined and completely changed the meaning of the label "special".

I don't think the defense played horrid, they were just stuck on the field for the entire second quarter. What did you expect? The offense was bad, but they were down a mountain of points, and I guess that they had to take some chances. Special Team killed us. At one point last night, I realized that everything that could go wrong in that game would go wrong. At least none of our guys got hurt.

Again, NO ONE is saying it is all on the defense, BUT, the defense was lousy the 1st half and thus the game was out of reach at halftime. You have been there from the start taking up for our defense this year, I give you credit for that. The fact still is, I don't care how good we become on offense, we will never win a MNC if our defense is not much better than it was this year. Oklahoma and UF both play great defense to go along with their great offenses, just saying we will have to improve a lot on defense to win a MNC..I'm convinced PJ. will have this offense clicking on all cylinders next year but REAL concerned about our defense.

Maybe it's because they were tired as hell from having to be on the field so much because LSU had the ball alot..... :ugh:

They should have been pretty fresh on the first drive of the game.

I seem to remember them being horrible then too.

Err, you don't get tired in the 1st half of any game. Did LSU not drive it right down our throats from the get go on the 1st series? PJ's gestures to coach Kelly on the sideline all during that 1st half told the story of the major reason we lost.

I was actually referring to the first half of the game - not the first quarter. Sorry for the confusion. :o
