an equally humble suggestion in view of your recent Tech/Vandy destination post:

You said that Clough is/seems "at home with this limp wrist from Nashville, and smirks right along with the Triangle crowd - UNC, State and Duke - when tossing anti-football strategies over their wine and brie."

Then you offer a solution: Mine differs somewhat. I am for some of the "right" people going to him and quizzing him about his innermost thoughts and then acting accordingly. Is he a pretender(re:being pro athletetics <esp. football, as he shows himself at half-time>) or is he not. If he is, then it ought to be explained to him the benefits of being genuine and real. If he is a true, loyal supporter, then explain the benefits of being even more so.

To this point we have done pretty well despite many football (and other althetics detractors). If the Pres. is not on board, then it is apparent that there are many in high places that are not "on board". There is the root problem and that is where muscles should begin to be flexed. If that cannot be altered, then we will drift into Vaderbilt-land. That is for sure.

I for one think that there are too many courageous and influencial Tech alumnae to make things uncomfortable for Clough or anyone else who messes with Georgia Tech tradition (athletic wise). I believe that things will be alright, and we do not have to worry about becoming like those other schools mentioned. I am sure that is a great deal of pressure on the Pres. at Vandy tonight, and that there will be even more.

Never fear, the situation at Vandy is very dissimilar from that at TECH. Vandy is the kind of place where there is virtually no opposition to the chancellor in this case Gordon Gee who, at his previous stops, has a reputation for meddling in athletics. Many of the folks here in Nashville have been misled by Gee's posture on athletics because no President has ever acknowledged athletics before. As long as a pres at Vandy is acting like he supports athletics everybody think it's a new day. Gee talks a good game but his motives are ulterior. No one at the switch - Gordon Gee does what he wants. Such is not the case at TECH by a country mile. Vanderbilt could possibly allow Gordon Gee to take them down the DIII path which they are assuredly headed whether Gee says so or not (listen to this guy when you get a chance. i'm surprised Vandy is clueless enough to buy his con job) but that kind of crap won't wash at TECH in our lifetime.
