seems to be the prevailing philosophy of the powers that be. But that artificial rose is still gonna smell like what it really is.

There are new coaches with losing records who know what they're doing... and there are new coaches who will end up with losing records that are clueless.

Our current coach is clueless.

Don't tell the QB he has to throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage to avoid intentional grounding, let him learn it in the game. (And if our QB did know the rule, why did he throw a bounce pass behind the line of scrimmage? I call it poor cpaching. You've got to stress this when your QBs have been sacked and thrown the ball up for grabs as much as ours did prior to the Md game.)

Announce publicly well in advance of the game that you're going to use your second string QB, regardless of how your starter's doing, because he can run and gives the defense something "different to worry about," then do it, and watch the reception committee waiting to clobber him.

Don't teach sound tackling... the guy before you probably covered that.

I think this riddle has been solved. We made a big mistake hiring this guy and neither he nor we are going to be any better off letting him embarass himself any longer.

But Dave Braine and the money boys won't admit they made a mistake until we're 1-10 and playing in front of 20,000 people at home.

So what do we do? Withhold all contributions until they do the right thing for Tech.

If I were running this show, I'd fire Gailey and re-hire O'Leary this afternoon. Then, I'd start trying to get Tech back in the SEC, so every seat would be taken in every sport even when we're having off years.

As long as we're gonna get kicked around, I'd rather get kicked around by some team I respect.

And if you liked the Maryland game you'll love the rest of the season... Duke going for their first conference win of the millinium... UVA battling for a good bowl... FSU trying to show they're still tough and going for a BCS bowl... NC State trying to stay in the Fiesta Bowl hunt... and UGA trying to stay in the national championship hunt and rubbing our nose in it for good measure.

I'm predicting we go 4-8. Yes, Duke will beat us, and the rest will kill us. But nothing will change in the Edge Building, and we'll get a letter asking for money and bragging about the girls' volleyball team. To Hell With Georgia, and To Hell with the Tech people who don't have the guts to right the ship.

And by the way, good luck with recruiting. Particularly against Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, since our recruiting efforts are centered on Texas after our coach gave up on Georgia, without even trying, even though the last coach was able to recruit it very well.

FallOnTheFlats, you lost all respectability with me regarding your post when you stated you wanted to bring O'Leary back.

I have never used this icon because it is in poor taste, but at this time, "what the hey".

Bringing O'Leary back =

You are correct regarding the sec. We need to take every measure possible to get back in as soon as possible. Would hope we have a friend in Broyles.

No, what some of you don't see is that moving quickly and panicking would be the worst thing we can do for Tech. It would be sending a clear signal that we can't stand any adversity, that we have no vision as an organization and that we have no clue.

What many of you don't want to accept is that Chan is regarded in the coaching ranks as a very good coach who knows what it takes to win football games. The "experts" that we all make fun of do sometimes know what they are talking about. Most felt we would be between 3-5 in the conference this year if we could find a new QB and RB. After the injuries most said we would struggle. Guess what, they appear to be right.

Our talent level at the beginning of the year was above average in the ACC IMO. We were strong at RB, WR and LB. OL was thin but good, DB was a huge question mark. DL was a concern of almost everyone's but we at least had Greg.

The injuries basically made our DL a liability. They actually proved our RB depth IMO, how many teams could be as far down their depth chart as us and still putting Clinkscales and Daniels on the field? Still don't know about the DBs but one thing I think has become apparent about our LBs is that, while very good, they are also too small.

The book on playing us now is just pound the D until you wear them down. On offense we have to find a playmaker, but we also have to do it in controlled, time eating drives. I think that's why the coaches really want AJ to succeed. They think he has more of a chance of leading those types of drives than DeBo.

So, to get back to my original point. If we were to take the advice of some and fire the coaches now, what would that lead to? Who would we be able to get? For that matter it's not like we we were turning down candidates last time. As far as I'm concerned Chan has a couple of years to show what he's got. If he's not the guy we will have to make a change. But to jump to that conclusion given all that's happened would be the height of stupidity.

The height of stupidity was to hire him in the first place and have our program ran into the ground in half a season.
I hope he is enjoying his semi-retirement.

Look dudes - you had your chance for a great coach. You are the ones who waffled on hiring Jimmy Robinson. We were about to hire him - and there was a groundswell of opposition.

Its not the first time that people doubted "Mr. Excitement" in the athletic arena. He was not recruited out of high school by Division I coaches. His high school coach called an old coaching colleague - I've forgotten his name - and pleaded for Tech to take a look at him. Robinson was and is short (5'8" or 5'9"), small, but slow. Nobody thought he could play college football, much less pro ball.

Well he proved them wrong and single-handedly won more games for Tech than I can count on one hand by making impossible receptions. Mr. Excitement caught any ball he could touch in any traffic and then incredulously people couldn't tackle the small but slow guy. And again, incredulously, I don't remember him ever getting injured.

And then amazingly he hung around the pros for 5 to 7 years. He was quick - but not fast, ran tight patterns, played smart, and caught everything he could touch.

First, I don't think being a position coach in the major media market on the East Coast is a bad gig.

Two, I don't think head coaching experience or coordinator's experience is necessarily necessary. Look at Vince Dooley - he was an approximately 31 years old backfield coach at Auburn when Georgia hired him as head coach. Robinson has tons of more experience that Dooley had.

Third, don't take my opinion seriously. But take the opinions most knowledgeable about Georgia Tech football and Jimmy Robinson i.e. the former players who know Robinson and who know football - Kim King included. We were about to hire him but the outcry such as yours over his perceived lack of experience derailed his hire until Gailey popped up.

I just ask you. Whose judgment would you accept in hiring our head football coach - Kim King or yours? For myself, I'll go with Kim King.

No one would be able to match Robinson's enthusiasm for Tech. The team would be foaming at the mouth before the game. And not contrived -he just loves Tech so much that his infectious zeal would keep the team in a permanent hyped up state.

He sent his two daughters to Tech, the oldest graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Another is a senior this year - I don't know her GPA. Robinson only had a 3.8 when the overall average GPA was 2.3.

There's a reason "Mr. Excitement" was called that.
He's damned exciting. Just talk to him about Tech. No recruit would be able to resist "Mr. Excitement's" pull.

You know, sometimes you can over-think things - like wanting the shine and glitz of a former Dallas Cowboys head coach.

I think we should gone with Kim King and the other knowledgeable Georgia Tech football people.

If you ever met him, ever knew him, you would say the same. Sometimes the intangible cannot be fully articulated. He' s just a sharp, smart guy who people would follow anywhere. That's what the long time GT football people were trying to communicate - but NO - you wanted the flash and glitz of a former Dallas Cowboys head coach.

If "Mr. Excitement" were back here, we would all be excited - guaranteed.

I know – you got all those reasons about lack of head coaching experience, lack of coordinator's experience. But you know, do you think we should bank on your judgment or Kim King's. So what are complaining about - it was your judgment that got us into this pickle. If you had accepted Kim King's judgment as well as others in the know – you would be happy now. So Mr. football expert, you got what you asked for.

I don't think you can really say that intentional grounding is practiced. The team is out of sync.

Jimmy Robinson sounds great right now. Hell, John Robinson sounds great right now.

From what I've seen so far, I don't like Gailey. I don't like his standoffish attitude with the alumni and fans, I don't like his inability to make good adjustments, I don't like the repeated penalties, poor execution and stupid mistakes, I don't like his stuborness with not using Bilbo more often earlier in the season, I don't like that it seems he's out of touch with everyone around him most especially the players and I especially don't like getting embarrassed by a mediocre ACC team on national TV in front of millions with half your players quiting in the 3rd quarter. BULLSHIT!!!! You don't freakin quit!!!! You play your guts out even if they're being stomped on by the opponent. I doubt Gailey's fire and his ability to lead this team and this program. I think a lot of the team is very close to quiting on him based on what I saw in the second half performance last week and that's just plain disaster.

Now, I hope I'm wrong. I hope we come out with fire and play Virginia tough next week and pull out a win, but I doubt that is going to happen. I hope Gailey has it in him to rally this group and instill some serious urgency in them. It's serious backs against the wall time and we'll find out the complete picture of Gailey and what this team is made of on Saturday. We've learned alot this year already about this team and this coach. We'll find out Saturday if the team has quit and if they have, look out cause it's all down the freakin tubes from there unless we do something quick.

This is straight from Gailey himself....
"If you try to change and adjust and create crazy things, your players lose confidence in what you're trying to get done," Gailey said. "If you panic, you're in a bind."

OH MY GOD!!!

We are in so much trouble. Adjustments is what this game is about!!! How can you miss that?!!!

It's time to break out the life boats folks.

Goldbuzz, I did think Jimmy Robinson was a good choice at the time he was considered, but it would have been hard for any AD to overlook Gailey with his credentials.

Of course, his credentials may not equate into good coaching at Tech, but they were impressive.

I'd rather have 50,000 fans like FallOnTheFlats, with fire in the belly, who can clearly see that this path that we are on will sooner or later end in a head coaching change......than many who are complacant, and even eager to accept Tech's role as the constant step-child. Most on STINGTALK see the problem, but are unwilling to make the necessary steps to end it quickly, and as less damaging, as possible.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I quit reading your post when you said this. You mean to tell me a QB who has played College football for 4 years, has started multiple games, doesn't know he has to throw the ball past the line of scrimmage to avoid a grounding call? Talk about painting the manure.

Right on! Excellent, well stated post.

I absolutely hate Georgia. But you know what? This is a rivalry, and I detest whining. They whine over everything, and now many of our comrades are ready to do the same. I for one am not. The quicker we endure the humiliation of losing to Duke and Wake in the same year and watching Georgia set a record for widest point spread in the history of the series, the quicker we can get this brief era overwith and hire a real coach.

I was hoodwinked because Gailey is a Christian like me and I thought he knew some football. But , wake up man!

This edition of the Yellow Jackets shows little grit or fight. That is coaching. Lets go get some.

THis is really great! A place where we can all campaign for the new new head coach.

Well, I think we made a HUGE mistake letting Bud Carlson go. The defense has never been the same.

Bring back Bud!!! And Nixon too!!!

I need a drink,cheers.

I want to be on the record as wanting back in the SEC. It would really be an excellent selling point in recruiting. Dodd won big in the SEC and a new coach (notice I said a new coach) could also. Tech is and always will be a football school and that can hardly be said about most of the ACC.
