Of course that was just one more plays of what seems like hundreds that if we would just get our hands up we would swat it away.
Negative. The prospect of DPI doesn't make OPI acceptable. Had he not molested Butler, then Butler may have ended up being in his way and interfering, but he never had the chance. Butler wasn't even allowed the opportunity to take a step back and make a play on the ball because the FSU reciever was shoving him down.It is defensive pass interference. why?
1.) because Mario Butler is not playing the ball.
2.) He definitely is standing in Carr's way to catch the ball. Carr has the right to get to the spot the ball is thrown.
I can see why you think its offensive interference because Carr clearly is pushing on Mario. But Mario, but Mario is practically standing in his way. Mario's allowed to hit him but he has to do it at the line of scrimmage, not 7 yards past.

Why is standing in the way of the receiver PI? Isn't the defender allowed any spot on the field as long as he occupies it before the receiver? It doesn't matter because we'll never know if Mario wanted to jump for the ball or not due to being "held" by the receiver.
The key here is whether Mario is "playing the ball." Looking at the first contact between Mario and the WR, it looks like Mario is blocking rather than standing his ground waiting for the ball. The WR's pushoff was in response to Mario blocking him. So I also agree with the refs on this one.
Good thing it does not matter because between this and calling nesbitt down when his knee never touched would have driven me crazy!

Hope you don't mind, I borrowed your gif:
