Passing Stats Question

What seems to be the difference in QB TB that played in the Gator Bowl and threw 19/29 for 326 yards, and the TB that I keep hearing about this year that doesn't seem to be able to throw effectively?

CALVIN JOHNSON. I beleive he had 9 receptions for 196 yards and 2 or 3 TD's in that game.

To be fair to TB, imagine how bad Reggie would've been last year and throughout his career w/ no Calvin.

When the ball hit the receivers hands in the Gator bowl they held on to it. I can think of several passes of 15 or more yards in the last 2 games that were very catchable that the receiver just flat out dropped.

More opportunities to pass the ball downfield. We are relying on the run so much this year that we might as well implement the wishbone or triple option full time.

I've posted this about 10 times since the Gator, but not in awhile, so here goes.

The vast majotity of TB's stats were built in the first half of the Gator. WVU had no meaningful film on him, and underestimated Calvin. As Bisher pointed out, most of the completions were jump balls to Calvin.

At halftime, WVU changed coverages. Our only TD of the second half was after the onsides kick. Calvin caught a pass at about the 4 with two guys on him and a safety coming over to help. This set up the lone TD.

For the remaining 28 plus minutes of the second half, our passing game looked a lot like the passing game that we have seen for 5 1/2 years under Chan Gailey, which includes this year.

We dropped 2 places after Clemson, and now hold down number 112 out of 119 teams in passing efficiency.
