Paul Johnson interview on Jim Rome show - NOW

Classic. That's great. Paul Johnson - in the jungle. Throw him a vine.

Rack him.

Rome talked him up a lot. Said he was an ass kicker. It was a short interview and they discussed how the talk about "option won't work" is wrong.

PJ: We played against the same BCS teams when I was at Navy and it worked then.

PJ talked about coaching college players and how they need discipline. He called them teenagers and said they should expect him to yell at them and drive the message through. He said you should worry when he stops yelling at you. That means he doesn't think you are capable of doing better and doesn't think you're worth the time.

They also talked about being 2-1 (almost 3-0) while fumbling 11 times (losing 7). Once the growing pains go away good things will happen. Rome also pumped up Josh Nesbitt.

Rome disses UGA and pumps up Tech in a one week span? Amazing.

I still think Jim Rome's an asshole.

Anybody get a recording of it they can post?

he is a pompous ass hole but when he's givin' love to tech and dissin the pups. LOVE HIM!

funny...I used to think so until I started listening to him more regularly as he started airing during the lunch hour for NW Florida (Pensacola/FWB/Destin/PCB). Since more exposure to him...I really have heard nothing wrong at all. Matter of fact, he is always appropriate on the air...he is more conservative/traditional in his view of sports...he is hilarious at times...and he gives a good interview. He says a lot of stuff that is tongue-in-cheek...so you have to be a somewhat regular listener (once a week) to understand sometimes.
He is pretty accurate in his "takes" on things...has no problem admitting when he is wrong.
In the early days of his career (early 90's) he came across as abrasive...maybe family life changed him a bit....or maybe the rest of the media has become so disgusting and obnoxious he seems mild now. don't know...but he is FAR better than any sports radio show in Atlanta.

The parts I hate about Rome are his need to be "cool" and that weird deal he has with saying the same thing over and over, in slightly different words (although sometimes exactly the same). I mean, what's that all about? I also find it bizarre how he'll read an email, lambast whoever sent it, and spend the next 10 minutes lecturing his audience that he's not going to let the show go there. So Jim, if you don't want to talk about that topic, why read the email and then feature it? I love that he's giving Tech props, but he's still an asshole as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, and he's a pretty bad interviewer most of the time. He loves them when they're on the air with him, then he talks about them when they're not.

I agree. He has done nothing controversial in the last five years. Yeah, he's got a repetitive shtick that can rub you the wrong way, but that doesn't make him a jerk.

Some of the sound bites he repeats do get really funny (ie. "It's not Ryun, its Ryan" or "When I was in the skrip club, you know, I was just being rebellion"). Or when he talked about how Tiger Woods could be such a great interview, but gives these lame answers that say nothing ("My swing feels good, course looks good. I like my chances").
