Coach Johnson has an overall record of 189-100 (.654) between stints at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech. At Georgia Southern he won two FCS (then called Division I-AA) national championships. At Navy, he brought along his triple-option offense, took the Mids to five bowl games and went a combined 11-1 against Army and Air Force, winning five straight C.I.C. trophies. At Georgia Tech, Johnson’s Yellow Jackets won the ACC in 2009, and the Orange Bowl in 2014.

“It’s quite an honor to be on the ballot and in my mind it’s a reflection of all the people I had a chance to work with,” Johnson said in a statement.

Other coaches on the ballot this year include Mark Richt, Frank Solich, Darryl Rogers, Ralph Friedgen, Larry Coker, Larry Blakeney, Jim Carlen and Pete Cawthorn.

From AJC Article:

Coach Johnson compiled a career record of 189-99 (.656) in 22 seasons as a head coach, including an 82-60 record in 11 seasons at Georgia Tech (2008-18). His 82 wins are the fourth-most in Tech history, behind only College Football Hall of Famers Bobby Dodd (165), William Alexander (134) and John Heisman (102). Johnson’s .577 winning percentage with the Yellow Jackets ranks fifth in program history, behind only Heisman (.764), Dodd (.713), George O’Leary (.612) and Alexander (.580). He led the Jackets to nine bowl appearances and three ACC championship games. He was named ACC Coach of the Year three times (2008, 2009 and 2014).

Misquoting the article with a former title that does not carry with him. You're a bad newsfeed

He was this close to putting up a 15-0 mark in just his second season as a head coach.
Seven f---ing fumbles later, and a defense that simply could not stop the run, and it was 14-1 instead with one of the best offenses he ever had.

I went up to him a few weeks after that and said, "I still don't get it. What the hell happened?"
He said it was the football gods getting them back for 85 when Southern beat a better Furman team for the I-AA NC.
