Georgia Tech linebacker Philip Wheeler is expected to announce this afternoon that he will return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft, a person familiar with the situation said.
Wheeler led Tech last season with nine sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss and made 89 tackles overall, two behind team leader KaMichael Hall. He also recovered two fumbles and forced one.

Wheeler, a two-year starter, was the Football Writers Association of America Bronko Nagurski national defensive player of the week after his two-sack, eight-tackle game in the Yellow Jackets' upset of then-No. 11 Virginia Tech.

I never had doubts about his return. One more year at college will really boost his draft position. This year he would be competing with K. Hall who had more tackles (though less sacks and tackles for loss). Next year, he'll be the head Jacket from the LB core.
