The effects of a strong year on the field usually do not take place in recruiting until one season later.

yeah, i know, i'm not saying they should've had a year like us recruiting, but seriously...DUKE! C'mon. they only got 4 3-star guys. i know ratings aren't everything, just found it interesting, and i'm embelishing slightly 'cause it's DUKE for crying out loud.

That is one thing Ted Roof and Glenn Spencer do well...they are good on the field....great in the living room.

Numbers for Miami and FSU

Their numbers will grow. The have 11 and 10 commits respectively. Expect them each to sign multiple highly ranked players as recruiting winds down.

You sure about that, sir?

And do you think that indicates we'll recruit better next year than this year?

I Don't Think The Correlation Is That Strong

I don't think we did well at all in 1991 recruiting. I remember Mack Brown going winless at UNC and still recruiting like his hair was on fire when he was getting established there.

Recruiting is about personal relationships and expectations.

Doing well can get you in the door, and can validate you in the big-time football group, but no recruit says, "Ten wins I'm coming. Nine wins I'm not."

I think we've been pitching that we've got something special brewing. The kids saw it as it unfolded. Wake could have been using the same thing, but they've got too much against them to turn around recruiting that fast.

Here's the thing. To be ranked 13th for GT is awesome. Truly an accomplishment. To be #1 in the ACC is a bit scary. To me that says that the factories are not doing enough to improve the level of talent in the ACC.

looks like Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, Miami, FSU and UCLA are the teams that could make the big move up and pass us...

FSU and Miami ALWAYS start off slow and get alot of the "pick this hat over that hat" 4 and 5 star players at the end. This year shouldn't be any different.

VaTech always has average recruiting (according to the experts).

I don't think that they are typically this far back halfway in, not to disagree but just to make a point.

It's hard to argue factual evidence. According to Scout.com, first number represents commitments prior to Jan 1, 2nd number represents commits Jan 1 or after (and although I didn't break it out any further than that, most of the commits occur the day of or the week leading up to signing day)....

FSU
2002 - 3/18
2003 - 5/16
2004 - 6/20
2005 - 8/15
2006 - 16/16

Miami
2002 - 9/14
2003 - 10/11
2004 - 9/17
2005 - 11/6
2006 - 13/10

32 commitments? Nice. It's easy to have a top recruiting class, when you sign more people than you are allowed.

The more valid comment is that kids committed sooner this year than ever before, and not just to us.

Yeah, there were some JuCos in there and 1 of the commits didn't sign his LOI. That brings the number down closer to 25.

The trend for Miami and F$U indicates that kids are commiting earlier but they're still getting the "pick a hat" types.

I was referring more to being in the 35-50 range instead of the edge of the top 25 range with half their commits counted. I am well aware that they take late.

F$U is notorious for having recruiting surges during the final week of recruiting, hell last year they damn near caught up with the Gators in the recruiting rankings after a surge of commitments came in at the last minute.

Arkansas would have beaten OSU worse. :p

You have to remember Groh has a policy of redshirting almost all his recruits. He recruits for speed knowing he will not get the top guys. That will appeal to some but not many 3 and 4 star recruits. He knows his base and what he will get. He also knows how to coach them very well.

Yes, Groh certainly is a great coach (not) With all those great recruiting classes, he finishes 5-7 while that coach you want to get rid of for having a 9-5 record with bad recruiting classes in a down ACC year.
