I just wanted to mention that since Joe says we're probably his leader at this point....One of the interesting aspects that he said he didn't like about VT was the location "the fact that the school is in the middle of nowhere" so I think the "ATL" will have a strong pull on him....

How's Maryland's location? How many DE do they have on their roster? Depth is another thing Jones is looking at..He also canceled his visit to Tenn. Just wondering b/c it seems like location is going to be a pull for him..

College Park is in DC. I don't remember if it is just inside or outside of the loop.

Right up against the inner loop, about the 1 or 2 o'clock position, not too far from the I-95 & BW Pkwy exits.

I have one daughter who graduated from MD and another there now. It's a very pretty campus right inside the beltline in DC. Like Tech it's a separate little city beside the bigger city, but the surrounding area (other than US 1) isn't anywhere you'd like to be. It lacks the skyline view as it's not downtown, but it's very close to DC and a short drive to Annapolis and Baltimore. IMO ATL has more of the big city feel, MD feels more like a college campus when you're on it, but College Park is a pretty dingy place compared to downtown ATL.

DeepSnap, have you been visiting Geren? You have way too much intel of the area.:D

I can't get into that ring! To get to Pete's office, you need an escort. Just kidding..... well, almost. You do need to "have business" to get into "the principals" area.

I've been meaning to get by & see him - I've got a picture of the 1971 RedShirt team I want him to autograph - but tho I'm in DC about once a month, I only get by the Pentagon about every other year (thank Goodness). Guess I need to call and set up an appointment, huh?

A VT friend reports that his TSL interview did not name a leader, it said VT and GT were tied. But it also mentioned that he likes the city more than the country.

Reading both reports, he looks like a GT lean to me.

I am absolutely impressed with CPJ's recruiting this late in the game. The staff is getting us in on a bunch of obviously legit sleepers. Marcus Wright as a two-star is a joke, especially as a GT SB. OL star-ratings are perhaps the least meaningful at the hardest position to project. We have three OL experts on the staff in Spencer, Sewak and Johnson, and they know exactly what they want which is big fast athletic kids. They've gotten us in on a bunch of kids who can run sub-5-second 40's. It's like having three Rick Tricketts.

Hell yes. I look at offers more than stars. If I see a kid with lots of offers from big time schools it means more to me than stars.

Trus.

But also remember that is how the "amalysts" on Scout and Rivals think as well. The star rankings do not get achieved by thousands of hours of evaluating film, practices, games, etc. The stars are born out of the offers they see going out....not just the amount...but who offered them.

Best way to evaluate a recruit? You can look at measurables, competition, stats, etc...but the best way is the film itself. Check out the film and see how they look live and on the field during game time. It is not just about the highlight play itself...look at the particular things they do, their body positioning, angles, etc. and you can usually tell how natural of a football player they are.

There have been plenty of great ones that did not get a lot of offers...and it will happen again this year.
