According to the poll, just under 20% of people are bothered by the (u?)ga thing. I imagine that this is out of principle, and I can see that point. For a little background, Edsall & Hatcher were my top two with Muschamp/Tenuta in the second group. I have no idea the whys and hows, this is just how they shook out for me.
I just wanted to interject that this guy may have graduated from (u?)ga. However, he has no prior loyalty to them. Yes, he had a college football career with them. Yes, he has a diploma from them.
However, I feel that if Tech were to give this ambitious young coach his first crack at head coaching all loyalties to ga would wash away completely. A head coaching gig would trump a college football career any day.
He'd be a Tech guy and a (u?)ga guy no longer. Hell, he's been coaching at Auburn & LSU and tearing it up. The guy has been involved with a team that has beaten Rcchchchccchht! This is huge for us! We have never beaten Rcchchchhht and we've been playing him for 14 years (F$U included, obviously)!
As I warm up to the idea of him being our HC, I think his personality would be a force on the southern recruiting trail. Now, pie in the sky, if he could promote Giff to DC and keep Kelly, we'd be in business right away.
One thing is for sure, Gailey is leaving the cupboard full and our next HC should be able to have success right away. I am giving no new HC a pass in his first year.
OK, cheers for getting through this optimistic and long-winded rant.
