Perspective on the Muschamp/(u?)ga thing

According to the poll, just under 20% of people are bothered by the (u?)ga thing. I imagine that this is out of principle, and I can see that point. For a little background, Edsall & Hatcher were my top two with Muschamp/Tenuta in the second group. I have no idea the whys and hows, this is just how they shook out for me.

I just wanted to interject that this guy may have graduated from (u?)ga. However, he has no prior loyalty to them. Yes, he had a college football career with them. Yes, he has a diploma from them.

However, I feel that if Tech were to give this ambitious young coach his first crack at head coaching all loyalties to ga would wash away completely. A head coaching gig would trump a college football career any day.

He'd be a Tech guy and a (u?)ga guy no longer. Hell, he's been coaching at Auburn & LSU and tearing it up. The guy has been involved with a team that has beaten Rcchchchccchht! This is huge for us! We have never beaten Rcchchchhht and we've been playing him for 14 years (F$U included, obviously)!

As I warm up to the idea of him being our HC, I think his personality would be a force on the southern recruiting trail. Now, pie in the sky, if he could promote Giff to DC and keep Kelly, we'd be in business right away.

One thing is for sure, Gailey is leaving the cupboard full and our next HC should be able to have success right away. I am giving no new HC a pass in his first year.

OK, cheers for getting through this optimistic and long-winded rant.

I agree, I think his intensity would fire up the fan base and he would be able to recruit much better throughout the South, especially in Georgia.

Can you imagine the complete and total hatred UGA fans would have for him if he started beating them? Imagine the hate they have for Spurrier, it would be 100 times that for our Coach. Any Coach hated that much by UGA fans instantly, is good for GT.

he would be able to recruit and win some games, but I still think he would divide the fan base severely, which is why Hatcher would be the best choice because he would energize the fan base and in my opinion, he would probably win more games than WM and could be punching our ticket to the Orange Bowl in the first year.

Where is Swagger? He's got to be loving Muschamp. Weigh in, would ya please?

I desperately want Hatcher to be the HC. Nobody even comes close to him as far as I'm concerned. I would not immediately be on board if Muschamp were selected. He would have to come out immediately with very strong words and bury the UGAg issue permanently. I would be on board also if he brought in Hatcher as the OC.

I see this hire as all the chips being put on the table. To fail is to return to a 70's era full fledged meltdown in terms of success and finances. To succeed to is return to national prominence and stake a claim as an ACC top tier program long term. I don't want such important things being put in the hands of 'gaggers. I want them put in the hands of proven winners who succeed. And that means Hatcher.

I contend that Muschamp is not a gagger. If Tech hired him, we would have converted a former (u?)ga guy to a Jacket. We would be +2 in the transaction.

I would be psyched to have Hatcher, though. I was happy to hear that we definitely interviewed him.

Hatcher and Muschamp are my top two, right now.

People just need to get over things and embrace whoever. I'm convinced Tech fans could find something wrong with anyone. I think if we brought back Heisman or Dodd that people would find something to complain about.

Whoever we hire is our coach and you embrace him until he doesn't perform at a high level we are searching for.

Yeah, they would hate him so much that they would hire him as their new HC after firing the coach that lost to him.

Could Will Muschamp stand at the podium in front a large crowd of media and GT faithful...and proudly proclaim..."To Hell With Georgia!"

What coach has done that? I'm not trying to vehemently challenge you, but I am curious. I think the TWHG war cry is a student/alumni chant, not one to be made public.

EVERY coach has done that at alumni gatherings. Plus...about it being public...it is in our darn fight song!!

I have personally witnessed every coach say it going back to Bill Curry in the mid-80's.

...tough thing to say about your alma mater...I could not say it about Georgia Tech!!!

That may be true... but I think a coach that would be gutsy enough to make it public would be pretty intriguing and excite a lot of people... Considering Gailey was so calm and mild.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I was thinking more of a press conference scenario.

But my answer to that question is that anyone would say whatever to whomever when an organization is paying them twice as much as they have ever made, so long as it didn't ruin their reputation.

At a gathering that consists exclusively of Tech folks and media, I concur completely. He better f'in say it.

I agree with everything that you said and I think most people feel the same way. At the same time, there will absolutely be a very vocal minority that will not easily embrace Mush or any other former dawg as HC.

I think GT fans are sick of the in-fighting of the past 3-4 years over Gailey and desperately want a re-united, re-energized fan base. I think that all GT fans fear that if we hire Mush that we are going to go right back into full-on infighting mode over this ugag issue.

We have a number of strong candidates to choose from including another young, enthusiastic coach in Chris Hatcher that most people view as at least an equally qualified candidate.

I think the questions that everybody wants answered are:

What is it that makes Mush worth the risk of backsliding into bickering and in-fighting right from the beginning?

If he is not far and away the best candidate, why take this risk when there are perfectly good alternatives?

No offense JTS, but if DRad hires him then don't you think that DRad feels he's the best candidate far and away? Wouldn't that by why he'd be willing to take that risk? If he takes that risk then it is pretty clear to me that he believes VERY strongly that WM is going to be the winner he needs him to be to overcome whatever objections some might have.
