3.6 GPA. Hell yeah.

Dude, where did all these smart football recruits come from?

I thought we got some smart in-state ones too.

Only at Tech do the fans get excited about HS GPA's as much as 40 times. Gotta love it. That is why we are unique.

Serious question - with GA public schools being near the bottom of the pack in education (can't remember the actual rank), what does a 4.0GPA in GA equate to in some of the higher ranked states? Unless our signees are in AP courses or magnet programs (are they still called that?), they're getting the same low-ranking education as everyone else in GA.

Well I carried a 3.25 gpa in high school and I've got a masters degree from Tech. I don't think we can really equate one state to another - most people in high school just set a goal that meets their needs and shoot for that, instead of busting their ass for perfect grades that mean nothing. I imagine anyone playing football is thinking "above a 3.0 and that gets me into any school I want."

I guess what I'm saying is that while a 3.6 gpa might be harder to get in New York, there's no indication that Peters or anyone else couldn't get it in New York if they set that as their goal.

I tend to lean toward this as well. I'm sure it also depends on what part of Georgia you're from. In Savannah, there are some really good magnet schools while there are also several schools that will pass anyone who steps through the door. I personally went to a private school which is why I posed the question rather than answering it myself.

It Always Seemed To Me

It always seemed to me that test scores tell us how smart someone is and grades tell us how motivated they are.

Smart school or not, a high GPA tells us he does the work he needs to do, and wants to excel. That's more than half the battle.
