Philo Stay or Go Thread

Your age is showing. We wouldn't have a highly rated QB and RB going into the season if "loyalty" was still considered a virtue. I read somewhere we picked up nearly a new OL and DL through the portal and look pretty stacked going into this season. We have a chance at a great season because a bunch of 'disloyal' guys chose to come play for GT/CBK (and $$) rather than be loyal.

Aero, I can’t disagree sir. I guess my ass is just getting old and not keeping up. I miss the days when loyalty was important to kids. Guess I need to adjust or move the hell outta the way

You guys are forgetting CBK interviewed for jobs too, mid season. Yeah, maybe he'd never take one, and was just negotiating for more money. But we can't have rules for thee but not for me.
I don't know if Key "interviewed" or not. I have a cousin who is one of the largest donors at Auburn and he says Key did not interview. He said he may have "listened to their pitch" on a conference call but he did not visit Auburn.

Regarding Penn State, I don't know if he did or not but I would suspect it was the same kind of thing where he took a call with them but didn't go visit or interview. The rumors seem to be contradictory on that one.

It’s not unreasonable to ask a group of coaches and players to commit 100% to a team for 9 straight months until the end of the season. That means no interviews, no phone calls, no testing the water.

What happened last year with a record hot start and a 1-4 finish was unfortunate. And I believe that was partly attributable to selfish job shopping during the season.
Gotta agree with you Tampa

I hope we get the opportunity to meet Buster and his henchmen in battle. May Tech be victorious.

I think he did, and I think you know he did. There's nothing wrong with looking for more money. We've all done it.

The disloyal ones are the ones leaving not the ones joining our team.

Word is that he did interview with Auburn
Like I said earlier, one of my cousins through marriage is one of their biggest donors. If he ain't top 5, I know he's in the top 10. He's connected.

He told me Brent Key did not come to Auburn. He said he was told Key had a phone call with them. His words or WTTE were "I was told it was more of a pitch to Key to gauge his interest. I don't think they even asked him any real questions like you would in an interview."

I'll go with his take over some internet rumor until I see or hear proof otherwise.

Bottom line- there is no proof that CBK interviewed anywhere last season

While I liked keep the mutts to a low score, I saw a Kirby Smart team that was just trying to run something vanilla to get the win. They had many opportunities to score on us. Our D definitely came to play (the energy level vs the mutt offense was easy to see), but they had zero worry about us scoring on offense. They played us like an annoying mid major that just wouldn’t roll over and take it.
You and I watched a different game. I haven’t even heard a uga homer make this case.

We are roughly the same age. I prefer the way it was when you could watch a freshman on the team and get excited about the player he would grow into with more experience and strength training. But that was then and this is now. Now I am supposed to be excited when Haynes King completes a pass to the player he brought with him through the portal.

The portal isn't open during the season for players and it shouldn't be open for coaches either. After the season is over, do what you gotta do but during the season, do your damn job.

The portal should be open 24/7, just like any other job market is. I wish someone would challenge this portal opening and closing nonsense in court. This is like saying you should quit your current job before you look for another job, smart people don't do that unless their current job is unbearable.

And why wouldn't you be if they are wearing Tech uniforms like that freshman you've never heard of before?

Ok; but make it go both ways. No losing your starting position during the season either :coolugh:

This is a business now with owners, managers, and employees masquerading as a team sport.

You can tell the ones that are either inexperienced or have been stuck in a cube their whole life.

Key has as agent. For some of you out there, believe it or not but Key's agent represents and has relationships more than just Brent Key. Other agents, other shools, other coaches, etc.

Auburn's selection committee has agents they work with, they reach out. Chances are unless they're completely ignorant, they've been soft looking for months, putting their short and long lists together. Would a coach be interested? How many of us like him, think he's ok for us. If so would that coach talk to us? Someone calls the agent and asks. If it's a yeak ok I'll hear them out, they talk. That gets the basic shit out of the way like are you interested a little, somewhat, a lot or this is maybe a great job for you. After that's school to agent conversations about what it might take. Then there's a interview.

This isn't applying for a job at Walmart where you get hired on the spot by some HR dimwit. There's contracts, comp levels and support levels, degree of autonomy, expectations to be discussed, etc.

If I was Key I would have talked. Seen what the market looks like. He does have to periodically regeotiate his contract with GT. That's no small task in an of itself. He needs to know what he's worth.
