Pittsburgh is probably out....

"Cowher last week recommended that the Steelers hire Mr. Gailey, and because of that Mr. Gailey was a late addition to the team's list of candidates and was interviewed on Saturday in Pittsburgh. However, he is not considered a viable candidate for the job."

Why not?

That article means nothing. The only opinion of who is a viable candidate is of the owners not the local papers.

Why not?

Maybe because they looked at the end results every year since he's been at GT. duh.

A lot of people, myself included, simply believed that both interviews were simply informational in nature because Gailey worked for those franchises, knew their personnel, and his opinions as a long time NFL guy would be valuable.

A varied group of insider types--some who post seldomly and are usually pretty reliable--now seem to be indicating that the interest is not only serious, but (1) Chan has a strong chance of getting an offer, (2) if he gets an offer he's gone.

Maybe after they brought him in for an informational, they liked what they saw and upgraded him to a strong candidate. That's what you hear: Those who meet the guy in person come away really impressed. I never thought he seemed that charismatic on TV, but what the hey do I know?

I find it interesting that Gailey was Cower's pick for the job.

Where are you getting this information? Not disagreeing but find it strange that the departing coach would make a public recomendation...

Gailey, 55, was not among those scheduled for interviews until Cowher recommended him to Dan and Art Rooney the past week. When asked who he would hire for the job, Cowher gave them Gailey's name. They called Gailey on Wednesday and the interview was then set up.

Answered my own question. I find this strange, not that he would recomend Gailey for an interview but that he would publically recomend him for the job.

The network between the NFL is really tight. What comes around goes around. you won't see many coaches dissing other coaches in this league because they will be calling or making the call for a job every two to three years.
