Anyone know what has been discussed in regard to CPJ and radio and/or TV shows?

I asked Bill Wagner (hometownannapolis guy) if Paul did shows up there.......his response......

No, Johnson hates that type of thing, vehemently fought it

At one point, there was a proposal to do a TV show with Pete Medhurst of CSTV as host and me as analyst/commentator, but Johnson shot it down.

I figure he's probably going to have to do shows of some nature, but don't expect call-ins on radio. If there's one thing obvious about PJ, it's that he doesn't tolerate idiots very well. ;)

bummer. I hated the fact gailey didn't take calls and was hoping PJ would

FYI, contractualy with ISP...PJ has to do radio and tv....

well, the fact remains that many "major program" coaches do the bare minimum when it comes to tv/radio....including some pretty bland 30-minute radio shows with no calls.

I can take 'em or leave 'em, myself.

Dang. I was looking forward to listening to him not tolerate idiots.

I think it's ridiculous that Paul Johnson wouldn't do a call in show and/or television show. I hope he will. To me, that's part of the job. As far as tolerating fools, he gets paid to answer stupid questions from some of our uninformed fan base. If he doesn't think so, he's going to be in for a rude awakening.

He gets paid to coach and win games. Answering questions on sports talk radio has nothing to do with either of those. While I would miss the potential for some great quotes from him in response to the idiots calling in, I would much rather he was spending his time performing his primary job functions - coaching and winning games. Sitting in front of a camera does not help accomplish this.

In listening to What Drad wanted from his head coach you would think that TV and Radio would be a big part of it. It's easy to say he gets paid to win games and if he wins the fan base will come but DRad wanted to get a boost in the fan base before too many games are even played and that entails hitting the airwaves and talking to us idiots.

I respectfully disagree Allen. He gets paid to do much more than win football games. He's the CEO of our football program and with that job comes many duties and responsibilities. One of the more importantant functions, I believe, is communicating to the fan base and expanding the fan base. Radio is a great medium and folks would listen.

I will concede that winning will allow him to do things his way. If he starts winning 10 or 11 games a year, he can get away with being rude, short, and abrupt. Only winning 6 or 7 games a year will not afford him that luxury.

I don't really think he's rude, more like no-nonsense, which this team needs desperately. Which works just fine for me. But I'll admit that getting more midtown weekend fan yahoos to the games isn't really what I'm worried about either.

I hope and pray to God that CPJ doesn't do a call-in show. 9 out of 10 'Tech fans' that would be interested aren't intelligent enough (geek) to handle a live call-in show and it's a tremendous bore to listen to all the whining and/or butt slathering.

"Coach, I've heard that the first four letters of football, F-O-O-T, we're actually extracted from an ancient manuscript that precursed the modern day Democratic Party. Any comment about this and whether or not you wouldn't think it would be a good idea for Tech to embrace the current day Democratic movement?"

Not to mention you won't be able to pick it up on 790 anyway.

contractually with ISP he has to do these shows....and secondly RAD wants him to reach out to the fanbase...Dan will force him to due via the media outlets.

In two weeks PJ has had more interviews than gailey did in 2 years.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winnah. CPJ's media contract is a significant portion of his overall compensation package. It's not like you cheap bastards were going to cough up the multi-million dollar salary it takes to bring in a coach that can compete at the highest levels of the game.

I'm sure the contract says he has to do shows. The question is what kind of show?

I'd pay to see him beat dogs with a bat.

If that were legal.

To be humane, he should use a stuffed animal version of the UGA bulldog. Then, the possibilities are endless:
  • Beat the dog with a calculus textbook.
  • Spray the dog with mace and beat it with a nightstick (to simulate the all-too-common arrests).
  • Dropkick the dog into a bin that's labeled "Hargrave Military Academy."
  • Modify the dog so that its head opens when he steps on its toe (like a trash can). At the end of the program, he could then drop in a small, plastic brain.
  • Beat the dog with a stuffed gator.

If there's one thing obvious about PJ, it's that he doesn't tolerate idiots very well. ;)

If that is true, I wonder how in the world is he going to put up with us'en?
:laugher:
I love it!

So whats the status with the ISP contract? I was hoping this arrangement would be over by now. Surely DRad will do better than that.
