I am sure most of you have read these I like some of them. Again mostly the same types of things he's been saying...

Can you explain why you say your offense really isn't that different and some people are exaggerating it?
I think it's kind of funny, actually. I don't know how anyone even knows what kind of offense we're going to run. We haven't played a game yet. You can color it any way you want. It doesn't matter what you do on offense if you can't execute. If everyone understands what you're trying to do then you can all be successful. I get a kick out of when people ask me if it will work on this level. Last time I looked we were playing a division I schedule at Navy. We played five or six teams from the ACC and we played Notre Dame every year so I don't think it's a question of fundamentally will it work. We're going to execute and run it just like any other offense.

Do you think your offense requires more of a learning curve than some other offenses?
Not really. It's just like anything else. I think it's successful and the neat thing that I like about it is that it's a system. If you go back and look through the years, it's been a different type of deal for different teams. There were years at Hawaii where we threw the ball for over 200 yards a game. Basically, when we were at Georgia Southern we didn't throw the ball for a lot of yards but when you look at the scores most of the time we were so far ahead at halftime that there was no need to throw the ball in the second half. We still threw the ball for 100-150 yards a game and most of it was just in one half. If you can rush for 360 or 380 yards and throw for 140, you'll be pretty good.

I get a kick out of him using Navy playing Notre Dame every year as an example of why the offense will work at this level. Not that I don't have faith that the offense will work at this level, but didn't he go 1-4 against ND during his time with the Midshipmen?

Last time I checked it was typically the Navy *defense* that lost the games. In the CPJ era, Navy scored more points against ND than Tech did (46 vs. 33 in 2007, 14 vs. 10 in 2006). I realize that these weren't two of the best ND teams, but it is an apples to apples comparison.

I know he didn't have our talent when he was at navy but you had better look under the hood (i.e who they played) before you tout that statistic.

OK let's look under the hood then...

2007-2008
Rutgers (Big East) - 24
Duke (ACC)- 46
Pittsburg (Big East) - 48
Wake Forest (ACC) - 24
Notre Dame - 46

2006-2007
Stanford (Pac 10)- 37
UCONN (Big East)- 41
Notre Dame - 14
Duke (ACC)- 38
Boston College (ACC)- 24

2005-2006
Maryland (ACC) - 20
Stanford (PAC 10)- 38
Duke (ACC) - 28
Rutgers (BIG EAST) - 21
Notre Dame - 21

2004-2005
Duke (ACC)- 27
Vanderbilt (SEC) - 29
Notre Dame - 9
Rutgers (BIG EAST) - 54

2003-2004
Rutgers (Big East) - 48
Vanderbilt (SEC) - 37
Notre Dame - 24
Texas Tech (BIG 12) - 14

All BCS conference teams and in general they are all pretty high score totals.

Boys, we are going to score points. Let's hope our defense will hold up its end of the bargain. With our talent, I'm liking are chances more and more.

rofl, but he'd take a knee in the last game once he'd reached 31.

We've been down this road before. Navy's defense has never had the talent to compete against BCS teams.

It reminds of a story about Nebraska in the 80's IIRC playing a mid-major. Osbourne told the other coach during halftime that he would run up the 2 hole on every play in the second half. Nebraska still scored ridiculous amounts of points in the 2nd half, showing how there's no way to scheme around inferior talent on defense.

The last 5 years Navy played 18 D1A bowl teams. Half were in BCS leagues, half were mid-majors like CSU, AFA, Utah, TCU, etc.

Navy's offensive averages in those 18 games were:

359.8 YPG total offense
290.4 YPG rush
4.94 yards per carry
22.9 PPG

These are very similar total offense and scoring offense numbers to GT's overall numbers against all GT opponents over the same period.

In this comparison the Navy opponents are actually a little tougher on average than GT's, and as we know Navy's talent level is not remotely comparable to GT's.

When PJ is holding that ADT trophy within the next 6 years you guys will be laughing at these conversations.

I just hope the Flexbone does not become the next trend in FBS football, it helps GT that PJ is the only one in FBS running that offense.

(there are a few teams in teh FCS that run a variation of it)
