Hello all, I am a daily visitor on the site but have not posted in more than a year. I wanted to talk about a couple of current issues and how they relate to each other: coach PJ's offense and recruits.

First off, I am not an expert on the double wing option offense although we do run it at the high school I coach at here in Roswell, thus I understand it better than most people. In addition I played at Tech With J.D. whom I see posting here regularly, thus I have been around the game for a long time and again understand more than most people.

I have not voiced my opinion on the hiring of P.J. yet on this board, but I will now give you an overwhelming yes. His offensive scheme will be too unique for other teams to prepare for in a week or two. It is too complicated for a defense to schemeand is the offensive twist we need here at Tech to compete on a national level.

With this comes the issue of the players. This is not an offense that translates into a pro-style/drop back passer/I formation athlete fitting into this offense. Because of this we will recruit a different type of player on the offense going forward. Look for us to recruit the type of kid that is a scat back that can run (it is a shame because Grant would have excelled in this offense) and not the typical I formation back. Granted they may not be the heralded 4 star recruit but the system that PJ runs would not allow that player to excel. In fact PJ has to recruit a unique player that fits into his system that because of todays recruiting rating services do not have to evaluate these types of players 99% of the time, they do not know how to evaluate them.

My point is that we have many different opinions that are displayed on this board, which I think is great. I also believe though that many of those posters that have nothing to say but negative thoughts (mostly because they do not know what they are talking about) need to think twice before they post about things they do not understand.

On a separate not John if you see this, is your son a 7th or 8th grader this year. I coached a kid in the 7th grade all_star game from Walton (Jack Schaffer) whom was a great kid.

Tony, thanks for your well thought out and typed post.

You are absolutely correct about the QBs. PJ has said he will recruit QBs nationally because he can get players recruited at WR at big-time schools to play QB for us. That is how Pat White and Juice Williams were recruited.

I find it interesting that you believe that the slower power backs will not succeed in this offense. I beg to differ. I think PJ will mold this offense around the players he has now. JD is a power back in the mold of Emmitt Smith. I think he will be plenty successful in PJ's system because he has shown speed around the edge and can be utilized as the pitchman. I could also see him being lined up at FB in the TO.

JD is a power back in the mold of Emmitt Smith.

Bad analogy. While I think JD will do well in PJ's system. JD is nothing like Emmitt Smith. Emmitt was 5-9" 210-215 lbs.

JD frame reminds me more of Bo Jackson than Emmitt. 6' 225 lbs.

We will ideally have both the scat back type (think charlie Rogers) and the typically I formation tailback. I think once recruits see this in action they will understand that there is still a place for the traditional feature back in this offense. The biggest difference in terms of athletes is that there is more room for the smaller backs and the QB is a different animal than a pro style attack.

He is a little taller, but his running style reminds me of Emmitt.

I thought Choice garnered the comparisons to Emmitt? From what I see of Dwyer, he likes to run guys over, but still doesn't run it up the middle.

I think PJ offense will work wonders here at the flats if he can get the right recruits here. I personally think that if we ran this type of offense while Reggie Ball was playing QB that we would have a couple of 10+ win seasons and at least 1 ACC championship while he was at the helm especially with people having to worry about the option and CJ.

His running style reminds me of Walter Payton. Sweatness was much more likely than Emmitt to take his run outside. But he always chose to take the hit instead of stepping out of bounds.

My Dad was friends with Walter and he liked being called "Sweetness"...Great Guy

Great post Tony!

Although I do think this offense will be one extremely hard to defend and prepare for, there will always be that game where things are not clicking, fumble-itus, or poor weather.

A Playoff bound GSU team went to the frozen tundra of Montana in the 90's and got WHIPPED something like 45-0. The teams were not that far apart in power, just sometimes things fall apart, sorry for the rant but i'm a HUGE PJ supporter but I want to remind everyone that there will be thoes days where things simply dont come together. :o

An offense, no matter who its run by, will never be able to produce 100% of the time. I'd rather "not clicking" be the exception rather than the rule (unlike under ole Chan).

Not to change the focus of the thread too much but the key to PJ success is not the Offense-it will be fine just based on his excellence- it will be the Defense as THE key.Winning by (or losing) by 3 ,41-38 is not much different than 17-14 / 14-17 which we saw for 6 yrs..

Ya mean we're STILL gonna have to suffer Chanesque losses??

There are bad days for sure. But there are more of them in Missoula, MT. Before this year the Griz had something like 16-17 straight home playoff wins with a 41-13 average score. :eek5:

I think Chan took out a trademark on the term "Chanesque Losses" and we won't be able to use the term without ponying up. Oh wait, we will be able to use it for the next 4 years.
