Ten guys gone, several being outstanding performers from the year before, is what deflated Georgia Tech vs BYU. It's difficult enough to be a second year coach trying to appease anxious alumni. The fact that David Braine pulled the rug out from underneath the academic support structure upon O'Leary's exit - and "that did happen" - is damaging beyond compare. It also has affected the basketball team, but Braine's spinmeisters are not admitting anything in public - everything is rosey in print if you'll notice - and that's not being truthful with Tech Alumni.
Coaches Gailey and Hewitt have been dealt a bad hand by "an Empty Suit in the Athletic Director's Office".
I wish it were different, but it isn't. I believe strongly that Gailey and Hewitt would be much more effective, with much less pressure on themselves, if Braine had not ignored his responsibilities in the area of academic support disciplines, (to the student athletes and on behalf of the parents of those student athletes). Braine let the entire alumni core down and each student athlete and their parents when he blantantly turned his back on the academic tradition of our beloved institutiion.
And now we are reaping what Dave sowed. No respect, no job Dave!!!
