Positive outcomes from today's game

If there actually is a positive about this game it's that they players absolutely did not give up. We'll have to see going forward but so far there's no indication they'll do anything but play hard.

The positive of today is that Key and Long could no longer hide behind Sims’ athleticism and their noses got rubbed into the turd laid on the field.

Players played hard the whole game.

we didn’t have too many gaffes but the ones we had seemed to be pretty consequential.

defense was pretty stout.

I mean, defense killed it, played the entire second half after 3 and outs by our O and on our side of the field and gave up 3, they also scored 6 in the first half. Pretty clear that we had worked on kick block and said early in the game that we were gonna get one, and we did. I also think that last punt might have been intentional to try to hit an opposing player punt, which I thought was pretty nice idea. Still, though, Key isn't the answer, we might win a couple more this year, but probably need a new direction. New hc may want to consider keeping the dcoaches and semore at special teams, but wouldn't care if it's a complete overhaul

The defense deserved to win the game. They scored our only TD, forced 4 turnovers, and were rock solid in the second half. UVA's only score in the 2nd half was a FG after a 4-play, -2 yard drive.

Positives:

1. Defense played well. They were helped by some timely UVA drops but given the unreal number of 3-and-outs by the O in the second half they did a great job holding the Cavs to only 3 points.

2. Team played hard in general. No quit in anyone. I know some will say Gibson quit on that final play but I really don't think so -- I think he was just completely overwhelmed and unprepared to play the role a D1 QB needs to play, and his brain just short circuited.

3. Crowd sounded loud and we drew 50 people to the bar in NYC, which is the most in at least four years.

Sadly, that's about it. This was a game that was there for the taking and we probably would have taken it with even slightly below average QB play. Next game will be a true test for this team to see if they can bounce back after a heartbreaking loss. Good teams don't lose two in a row (lol).
