Ok, first let me say if we win out I think Gailey stays and I really don't know that I'd disagree with that (although I was ready to get rid of him Thursday night). Also, I don't think that will happen soooo....lets start the list. Here's mine:

1. Norm Chow - I don't think it's very plausable, but I've heard his name mentioned and I'd take him in a heartbeat if he'd come.

2. Paul Johnson - Not sure why we won't get him (as dem has pointed out), or why people wouldn't want him. Offensive scheme scares some, but man I think he could recruit Georgia like no other.

3. Jimbo Fisher - I think the reason his name is out there is DRad. Don't know much about him.

4. Randy Edsall - As I mentioned on another thread, I feel like this would be a lateral move.

Others named in no particular order:

Bud Foster - VT Longtime Defensive Coordinator

Jon Tenuta - GT Defensive Coordinator

Larry Coker - Former Miami HC

Tyrone Nix - S Carolina Defensive Coordinator / 10 years at So Miss

Charlie Strong - UF Asst HC, co-DC / 99-02 S Car DC / 95-98 ND D-Line Coach

Bo Pellini - 05-07 LSU Defensive Coordinator / 04 OK co-DC / 03 Neb DC interim HC / NFL experience

David Cutcliffe - UT Offensive Coordinator / Ole Miss HC

Chris Petersen - Boise St HC / 01-05 Boise St OC

Steve Sarkisian - USC QB Coach

Al Borges - Auburn OC/QB Coach since 04, long line of OC experience

Chris Hatcher - GSU HC, former Valdosta St HC

All this said, I will support whoever we bring in until they show I shouldn't. I didn't jump on Gailey before he got here like so many others did, and I won't jump on the next guy either.

How about these two:

Steve Sarkisian (young an energetic but true ability is hard to assess given the talent he works with)

Al Borges (throw it to the flat every down offense)

I also like Jeff Tedford but he's a pipe dream as well as Major Applewhite but he's too inexperience and might already be heading to SMU.

I would like an offensive coach so that we can keep Tenuta, this way we fix the offense without tampering with the defense.

Major Applewhite would make me shoot myself.

Don't expect Tenuta to stay unless we promote him.

1. Randy Edsall - Has coached at GT therefore knows how things work here. Knows how to recruit GA. Built a program from the ground up.

2. Jimbo Fisher - Has been a part of National Champship teams. Knows recruiting region. D-Rad knows the guy and likes him (probably no surprises). Would have taken UAB HC job over OC at Alabama or FSU. Rumored to have been guy if Gailey had left last year and rumored to have been the guy if Rodriguez had left WVU. Has an out in his contract specifically naming the GT HC job as one he can leave to take without penalty.

3. Chris Hatcher - Rising Coaching Star. 82-14 as a HC at Valdosta St and Georgia Southern. Coached Dante Culpepper at UCF and Tim Couch at UK. From Macon, knows how to recruit GA and our recruiting region very well.

4. Norm Chow - Uber Offensive Guru. If they have won a Heisman this century, Chow has probably coached them. I don't know why he has not got a HC gig yet, but he must have some huge not immediately obvious flaw (hates recruiting?).

5. Jon Tenuta - Already under multi-year deal as DC, could potentially maintain recruiting / staff continuity.

In a perfect world, we hire Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Bowden is so distraught he retires, leaving FSU staring at filling two big roles, so they throw money at Mark Richt, who leaves for Florida State, and we kill two birds with one stone.

Boy would I laugh my ass off at that.

Although I kinda like Hatcher's resume better than Jimbo's.

I could go for that scenario. I still think Parole Officer Richt is off to Tallahassee once Rev. Bobby leaves, regardless of what Jimbo Fisher does.

My brother works with an FSU Alum and his family are big time FSU donors. They have dinner with Bowden regularly. He told my brother (also Tech alum) that Bowden is retiring this year and Jimbo takes his place. I'm not saying this is true but this is what the guy told my brother.

Also, Bobby wants to go out with the program back in the top 10. I dont know if that is going to happen but, he thinks it can be done and that is his goal

Then he should have retired long ago. I can't see FSU back in the Top 10 under his leadership.

Chris Petersen; seriously I really like this guy as the next coach... I'm actually going to post some stats on a new thread and officially throw in my support for this guy.

Hey 1865 Jacket - thanks for keeping the OP edited and updated, that's really helpful.

Yo Mods - is it too crazy to ask for a sticky for this thread?

bump, edited to add coaches on page 1.

There are some interesting names on the board. I have to say, I like the idea of Petersen....especially if we could convice Tenuta to stay. The one worry w/ him would be recruiting Georgia. That puts him about 4 in my list.

Since this is sortof the summary thread...

The quality of black coach that we could keep and retain is probably higher than among the white candidates.
That's actually a good point. Which ones on the list are black? Any of them?

beej67,
doesn't really know much about the race of coaches

>Here is a link< to the BCA's hiring report card (HRC) for 2007 in college football. It includes their grading of all division IA & IAA football programs that had a head coaching vacancy last year. It also includes a list of all minority assistant coaches in division I.

Personally, I agree that the best chance we have for a 1) qualified candidate, 2) who is regarded as an up-and-coming star, 3) who will stay for a long time even after bringing the program to where we all want it to be, will be to hire a minority HFC. My choice = Norm Chow, no question, hands down.
