"Remember the parameters of the nine-game league schedule ACC schools adopted in 2012, only to shelve eighth months later? Time to unearth that file.

Indeed, nine games are quite possible if, as expected, the ACC and ESPN agree by year's end to broaden the league’s exposure through traditional (cable) and progressive (online streaming) means."

If you go to nine, why not ten? Four home games and five on the road is a disadvantage to five at home and four away. So, if we need more conference games for TV, let's do 10. Everyone can play their one easy home game and if they choose, one rival or intersectional game.

If we increase the number to nine or even ten conference games, and we keep the divisions, I would only let the division games count. It's not equitable to have someone win a division and play for the title because they played easier teams from the other side.

Here's what I would really like. Play ten conference games. No divisions. Every conference game counts in the standings. The two teams with the best records in those ten games play for the title. Ties are broken first by head to head play, second by ranking. Everyone can schedule six conference teams to play every year. The other four teams would be on a rotating basis.

I like the idea. If we are truly going to pull the trigger on something drastic, this is just shy of adding a new team. I like the idea.

The last thing I want is more games against who-cares ACC teams.

Would it make for better TV if the ACC played less ACC games and more games versus top tier power 5 teams? Get ACC to 16 full members. 4 pods of 4 teams. Pod 1 plays Pod 2. Pod 3 plays Pod 4. Best team from Pods 1 & 2 plays best team from Pods 3 & 4 in the ACCCG. The best team is determined by tie breakers if necessary. The Pods would rotate playing each other each season. That's 7 ACC games. 5 OOC games. You keep your OOC rival. Now you have 4 OOC games left. Play 1 small regional school because they need the money, etc. Take your remaining 3 OOC games and schedule prime time marketable matchups. Use neutral sites if necessary. Let ESPN offer suggestions to which matchups and possibly which weeks they'd like to have them. Maybe setup ACC v. SEC kickoff showdown each year week 1 with SECN broadcasting SEC home games and ACCN broadcasting the ACC home games. Those don't even have to be home games. Spread them out across the country and time zones so they can play them all day on Friday night, Saturday, and Monday (Labor Day holiday with most people off work). Expose the nation to the best football. Now you still have 2 OOC games left to sprinkle in the Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac 12.

I know it creates a scheduling nightmare with not knowing who you play thru 2022 and whatever, but it could work if the schools, ESPN, etc. wanted it to work. Your SOS would be amazing and you'd build national exposure/brand, and presumably be more likely to get a playoff spot with a loss or two. But that's a whole other thing. We need conf. champs with auto bids and then fill more spots at large.

Pods are dumb 3GT.

Make Pods 1 & 2 the "majors" and Pods 3 & 4 the "minors" and relegate like soccer. 1 & 2 are eligible for bowls, ACCCG, and playoffs. They get more $. They're filled with the top teams in conference. The others have to earn their way into the top when one of the others fails out.

Still dumb.

So which ACC matchups would actually be wanted via TV? How many more times do we have to watch FSU v Clemson?

How much additional inventory would a 9-game schedule really create? The answer: 1 game per team every other year, or 7 more games total each year. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but how much do you think an extra Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, VT, GT or Miami game is worth to the league?

Has anyone seen what games are on the BIG Network or SEC Network... They are not all Ohio State and Bama??

Oh while we are talking Football only the ESPN and the ACC is also talking about a 20 game Bball Conf schedule... Again INVENTORY!!

Would this possibly mean the end of the UGAg series? I know the dwags have stated if the SEC goes to 9 games, the series between them and GT would end. Along with Florida and FSU.

GO JACKETS!!

I'm all for the nine-game league schedule for the ACC. More meaningful games to the standings and less boring, cup cake games.

Actually I'm sure we would keep the same number of cupcake games but drop one of the rotating power 5 games, like Tennessee for instance.

Exactly. Who wants to swap out Tenn for another game against the likes of BC or Syracuse or Wake?

I would swap out Jax State, Alcorn State (FCS) or Tulane/UCF/ USF(G5) for BC..Cuse even Wake Forest

Can you link where they said that by any chance? Or us, or FSU or uf? Would be interesting.

If one of the 2 ga schools tried that I would hope the state legislature would step in and prevent that from happening.

Let's see GT vs ugag, or GT vs wake / cuse and rarely fsu

This isn't happening, especially when us, Clemson and FSU play SEC East rivals (who are generally decent programs, save USCe) at the end of the season. Like anything, if we go to 9 games it will have to deal with money, i.e. a television contract or something.

I agree it only happens if there is an ACC Network...Until then we are at 8!

No link...just rumblings from Dawgfans "in the know" that if the SEC goes to 9 games, they will have to either drop the Jacksonville game with Florida or drop us. In the odd number years, they would lose a 7th home game and that's unacceptable from a money point of view. The problem is that the Jacksonville game is far bigger in their minds than our game is.

The Gators will face the same situation as well with their series with FSU.

I also highly doubt the state legislatures would bother getting involved in something as pithy as that.

GO JACKETS!!
