Well, 41-24. What weird game overall, though.

What did I learn?
  • Duke is not a very good football team.
  • Our passing offense can't seem to make its mind up. Either Taylor looks back due to bad passes or excessive pressure. Other times he zips it right in there but the receiver just drops it.
  • Tashard played a lot more than I would've liked, but he carried that team in the 2nd half.
  • Dwyer looks good at times, but not sure I like him out of the wild cat.
  • It's shame Nesbitt can't throw a better ball, but I still like him as a change-of-pace guy.
  • There were often a few too many blue shirts in the backfield for my taste, but don't really feel comfortable making judgments about the line.
Overall, I thought we were flat, but after the opening of the 2nd half the outcome of the game was never in doubt as the blitz became effective and the Duke QB started to trip over himself.

Y'alls thoughts?

ACC vs Duke:

CU .. +31
VT .. +29
FSU . +19
GT .. +17
UVA . +11
UM .. +10
WF .. +5

No complaints I suppose. As a fan I was also flat in the first half --but with a 10-point margin at the half my fan intensity picked up --and apparently the teams intensity picked up as well. It's always good to get a W.

  • I liked the opening drive; after that our offense was back to normal
  • TB had a handful of nice passes (the two on the opening drive, the one to Earls in the 2nd half), but overall he did not look good. His passes don't have any zip and often sail, he locks onto his primary receiver and telegraphs his target, and he's simply inaccurate more often than not.
  • There were a few drops by Bebe yet again that weren't TB's fault. Hopefully this isn't a permanent issue... UGA had a problem with Bailey and Mossaquoi but now both are excellent wideouts.
  • Earls looks solid... he may be our best overall receiver.
  • I agree with Asim about Dwyer... he doesn't have the vision to be effective out of the wildcat... I'd like to see him more involved with screen passes
  • Nesbitt hasn't had the chance to show his effectiveness passing the ball.
  • TC's hamstring will bother him until the bowl game. The knee injury hurt his ability to recover and we're going to work him hard next week, again. That's unfortunate b/c he'll have to be amazing against UGA for us to have a shot.

Just home from Wallace Wade. I enjoyed the win over Duke - good job Jackets!

My observations:
1. Take away three plays - the Choice fumble, the Bennett interception, and the blocked punt, and the game is 41-7.
2. Taylor looked OK today. Some dropped balls hurt. The first two passes were sharp. The two passes were the interception and when he missed Peek wide open in the flat. It was fourth and five, Peek flared out to the sideline uncovered, and Taylorwaited too long and got hit as he threw short.
3. Tashard Choice played hard and well. The other two TB's looked pretty bad.
4. The defensive line was great. They defended the run and rushed the passer. 90,93,95, and 42 were making plays all day.
5. Durant Brooks was terriific.

1. Take away three plays - the Choice fumble, the Bennett interception, and the blocked punt, and the game is 41-7.

Take away the 7 turnovers and the VT game is close, too.

:P

Take away all the plays Duke scored on and its 41-0.
