My first practice since last year. What a treat!!
Good to see some people I haven’t seen in while like tsq, dbo, and dbo’s dad.
Hot out there for sure!! They were practicing in shoulder pads and shorts . The practice was “brisk.” In the heat they didn’t miss a beat. Showed good conditioning.
Didn’t take long to see Coach John Bond runs a much faster quicker practice for his offense. He’s “HURRY HURRY” and “FASTER” all during practice. A lot of reps! He’s very hands on. Got a kick out him on one drill. They were forcing the qbs to deal with an unblocked person coming in where they had to rush a pass. He told Booker something like. “You scored 31 points in a HS Basketball State Playoff game. You can make this move.” They he showed him how to do it.
Avery Roberson was getting an ear full from CJT. ;) Both good and bad. Avery wasn’t where he was suppose to be at times, but he also made some good plays on 7 on 7.
Like to see fewer dropped passes from our WR. Have been hearing Earls has been having trouble, but he made a couple of nice grabs on 11 on 11.
Can see why people have been impressed with the walk-on WR, Clayburn. Tall guy who has very good body control going after the ball.
Some real impressive true freshman out there. Enjoy watching Donley and Burnett going at it in one on one drills. Those two have game! Both had their moments. Be interesting to see how it pans out in the depth chart and on ST for both of them. Donley made the nicest catch of the day on a long pass in good coverage. They were shuffling so many players. Not sure who threw the pass and couldn’t see the number of the DB. Really nice play!
Another freshman I was impressed with was Butler, who made a fine IT in 11 on 11 that got praise from CJT. Wasn’t a very well thrown ball from Nesbitt. He knew it. Could see his body language. Nesbitt is a really great athlete. He moves so well and has a good arm. The game hasn’t slowed down for him yet. He’ll be fine in time. Getting at lot of reps at 3. Made some nice throws in drills.
Both of our incoming RB are the real deal I think. Dwyer is much larger than I thought. He’s really powerful and showed some speed. Really like how shifty Roddy is. He hits the hole really quick. Showed good hands catching the ball. He and Grant look good in that regard. Roddy showed some toughness. He and Chambers got into a little tussle that had to be broken up.
Worked a long time on kickoffs. From my view I couldn’t see how deep we were kicking it. Saw mostly Dwyer, Earls, and Evans back there returning. Could have been others. I was watching some qb drills during that time as well.
Wasn’t able to watch much line drills today, so don’t have much to say. Can tell the lines have grown and look in great shape. Had the pleasure of walking from Peters Park to Rose Bowl Field with Adamm Oliver. Nice guy. He spoke about the morning practice, and how they corrected some things from Goal line drills. He’s looking forward to full pads again to show it on the field. He didn’t seem so nice when he and Dunnon got into during practice. ;) Took quite of few guys to pull those two apart.
Cox is HUGE!! He’s got to go 250lbs. Looked like he’s 100%. TC is bigger as well. That’s a very talented duo back there! Will be excited to see them go at the defense in full pads.
Walked away from practice very excited about this GT Football Team!!
Know this report is kind of choppy. Questions? Fire away!
GO JACKETS!!
