Hello Tech Fans,

I got the chance to visit practice this morning and figured I would provide the best report I could for you guys. I'd be happy to try and answer as many questions as I can for you guys.

First, I must say that you really can't tell much about the team from this practice in shorts and helmets only and any observations I make should be taken with a serious grain of salt. However, it is fun to talk about this stuff.

1. I thought both Booker and Bennett looked good at QB. Bennett especially looked very comfortable with what he was doing and had a presence about him. I thought it was one of the best first day QB performances I can remember in long time. He made a few questionable throws, but he made a number of beautiful passes. As has been talked about in the spring, he was spreading the ball all over the field.

I hadn't seen any of the spring, so Booker was better than I was expecting. I thought he was impressive and I think he could move the team if called upon. It is only one practice, but I wouldn't expect Nesbitt to be a big factor in the passing game this first season, but I expect he will likely see time in the Tebow role. I think he has some work to do before he can be a consistent threat in the passing game, but like I said that is simply based on the first day, and you need to take that comment with a grain of salt. He's got plenty of practices left to pick things up. He is a great looking athlete and he threw some nice balls today.

2. Peek and Barrick looked pretty good catching the foootball at TE. I thought all of the top 4 WRs had a nice day. If we hadn't been so used to seeing Calvin out there, people would be pretty impressed by Bebe Thomas, like I said earlier I didn't see the spring, so Bebe looked pretty good to me.

3. The OLine group passed the eye ball test, it has been a long long time since GT has had two groups of OLs that look like these do physically. The returning guys looked stronger than a year ago.

4. I thought Mario Butler looked much more athletic than I was expecting. J. Dwyer was much bigger than I was expecting as well. He has some pretty thick legs. If he is as fast as everyone says, he could be something special.

I must say that there were not of lot of things out there that concerned me. Overall, this is probably the most complete looking GT football team since 1990. Doesn't mean we will win the ACC or 10 games because the league is so much more challenging these days, but this is a well rounded football team. I feel very comfortable about the QB position. TB will lead the team and put points on the board.

The CB position has to be a concern because I don't think we have the type of players there to compete against premier QBs and WRs, but I do think ND will have a hard time exposing them as we have three CBs with experience, so they should be in the right spots and handle ND's inexperienced QBs and WRs. I don't know if we have enough big play ability to go back to the ACCCG, but this is a very sound looking football team.

Well, if you want questions, and since we were recently talking about special teams on here, did you see anyone who looked like they could kick the football from the 30 yard line to the back of the endzone? :fingersx:

Kickers were working on the track so I didn't see much kicking. They worked on punt team today, I don't think they did any kickoff work today.
