Two days before THE GAME and I resent the mood that exists concerning Tech football and our chances on Saturday. These guys are 7-4. They should be 9-2. They have lost to two very good teams, to one team having a good year, and to one very average team. They have beaten one good team and taken care of lesser opponents. I am disappointed they have not accomplished more, but proud of the team and their season. There have been many years prior to this past ten year run when 7-4 would have been a record to be thankful for.

Since mid-season and the "leak" about Gailey's firing, the subsequent calling of recruits by "our" AJC beat writer and the radio interview that grilled Gailey about his job status, we have virtually had a lame duck coaching situation created by the media and not diffused by our AD at all. The coaches and team have performed admirably under the circumstances.

Our rivals are a 9-2 team that has looked good in their past three games. They could easily have been 7-4 right along with us. But, it is sad that in a year when we play them at 7-4 versus 9-2 we are not more willing to believe in our team before the game. The close losses the past three years have stung; but it is clear we have been able to compete with the Mutts. We just have not been able to close the deal. The Atlanta media, GT fan base, and athletic administration have contributed little to building the confidence of this team on the eve of its biggest game. That is a shame.

Our coaching staff has won enough games to be given support until a season ends. If a change can bring a better coach at the end of a season, fine. But, we have not treated this group fairly. Most important, seniors like Cox, TC, Durant, Wheeler, Gary G, Lewis, etc. deserved to play UGA for the last time with a better show of support.

I'm not advocating mediocrity. I'm not arguing that a change should not be considered after the season. I just wish the team received better support for being 7-4 going into the Dawg game.

I don't know that anybody - myself included - understands how different the state of our fanbase will be if we get the win on Saturday.

I no longer know what I think we should do in the realm of Chan Gailey, which is why I have gone the whole season without getting involved in the coaching debates again. Even if I did have any emotions concerning what we should do right now they'd be drowned out by the ones I'm getting for the Georgia game.

I'm not worried, I'm not dreading it. I'm extremely optimistic that we'll win. Nobody that wants to call such a stance delusional matters to me, really. I'm just going to continue enjoying the week and this nervous/sick feeling that always sets in on Thursday before the UGAg game and lasts through the game.

i'm confident we can play it fairly close but i'm not confident we can win. Our offense needs to control the ball and they do that so poorly. also, we find ways to lose to better teams. chanball has worked will against teams outside the top 25 but have we ever beaten a team under him that finished the season in the top 20 much less the top 10?

I think the opening win over AUB in 2005 is his only win against a team that has finished the season in the top 20 and it was the first game of the year when depth is not nearly as important.

I REALLY hope we win but we have found all sorts of ways to lose these games under chan.

Advocating? I certainly hope you wouldn't but it seems as though you are accepting of it.

Everyone with even a half-filled noggin' of understanding of sports knows something is wrong with this program. What do you think it is?

After analyzing this too death, the only way we win is a Clepsum type day.Luck by the bushel to us (ie-missed FGs,negated TDs,dropped key passes,) AND AND AND MOSTLY a BIIIGGGG dose of Tenuta defense .
Not likely and we sure can't have bad coaching decisions that crop up with CG all the time.my guess is a VT type game.
Good luck.

I would say that development at QB is lacking. I would say that we need to beat our archrival. I would say that the offense needs to score more. I would say that we need to have better cover guys in the defensive backfield. And, I would like to see more depth at LB given that Wheeler and Guyton are leaving. Correct a couple of those problems and we would be 9-2. Correct all five and we would be undefeated. But, that does not mean the program is in a shambles.
