Pre-Season Depth Chart released...

Thanks Barrel, no surprises....but I look for Jamaal Evans to get a helluva lot of playing time this year. Certainly more than what you would suspect for a guy listed 3rd string on the depth chart.

Thanks for the depth chart but one question and I hope I haven't missed anything but......Why is Anthony Barnes listed in the depth chart? I was under the assumption he had to sit out again this year. Am I wrong or is the depth chart correct?

I thought having Avery Roberson listed as one of the starting CB's was surprising. I still understand it is really a 3 or 4 way battle for that spot. Marius could even get in the mix early.

In looking over the 'class' column, looks like GT will be starting 18 Sr's (6 + CJ) or Jr's out of the 22 starters on both sides of the ball. I knew this was going to be an experienced team, and the depth chart seems to indicate that.

I think I counted 17 So or Fr included in the two-deep 44. (I don't know what the significance of that is ...but hey, I'm a Statistician, sometimes this is how I look at the world) :laugher:

The better news is that only 3 seniors on defense and 3 on offense will be lost after the season. The QB situation is the big ? for 2007, however it is kind of the ? for 2006 as well.

If the weights are right we are lighter on the D line than I remembered. Also, I was hopeing some of the OLine (especially Garner) had topped 300 lbs.

Also the lack of depth at safety kind of jumps out at ya.

Overall though more depth along the lines than I can almost ever remember

The only player they wish could put on more weight is Matt Rhodes...he just really struggles to keep weight on him. However, he is technically sound, has strength, and is a solid member of the OL. Nothing wrong with Tuminello at 300, McManus at 300, and Wrotto at 310 as long as they can move. A 6-6, 290 LT that can move is nothing to sneeze at.

I love the size of our DL....there are VERY few 300 lb. DT's that can move like they need to in order to be effective...particularly in Tenutas d. Anoai and Richard are both around 285 which is just fine. Richard actually likes himself better now than when he was 305.

I wouldn't be overly woried about weight on the OL

The Broncos, a supurb running team, only have one 300lb player up front.

Broncos
290 283 286 295 338

Jackets
290 280 285 300 310

I think Denver proves that technique and strength are the most important things in a strong OL.

I recognize that sub 300 lb linemen are not an automatic deathknell. But I do believe it may restrict us to the same types of blocking schemes we used last year. They were a lot like the Denver schemes. I was just hoping to see us be able to drive block a little more this year - especially in the red zone.

As for the Dline, I am worried that over the course of a game with a big athletic line that our DLine may get worn down. Especially when you see that the second team DTs are 265 or less. Even last year we had a 300 pounder anchoring the line. Again, doesn't mean it cannot work - and yes I know FSU has made a living on 285 lb DTs - just would feel a little better with someone closer to 300 lbs in the middle. May just be me.

regarding DL...I did not see any dropoff going to Vance Walker as a backup....and he was a true freshman and 15 lbs. lighter...and with Richard in front of him. I also do not worry with Anyaibe as a backup as he is a big 265 lbs. if you know what I mean...well put together.

Fortunately we run DL schemes that free lineman up well...they have to have good feet.
