I really like the stuff they post over at Southern Pigskin. Their "Southern Power Poll" essentially is a top 10 (or 15 if they feel like it) of teams in the ACC and SEC combined. At one point we were number 3 behind Bama and UF.

My only critique of this would be that I'd place us ahead of UGA after their off-season losses. I also wouldn't put Miami on there at all.

Edit: I'd take Tennessee off as well. I'd say Wake is probably more deserving.

I don't get how Georgia got ahead of us when only one of the voters placed them ahead of us. Plus that same voter put UNC at #2 and put us at #10 behind Tennessee. So basically we are ahead of Georgia if you don't count huge SEC homers.

Because all the rest only had us past them by 1 spot.

Most of them are...

To respond to both. Yeah true that all but one only put us one ahead, but I can't take that one guy seriously. It is one thing to say SEC teams are better than ACC teams, it is another to say an SEC team that didn't make a bowl and has a completely new staff (Tenn.) is better than us. At that point you've thrown logic out the window and into the Atlantic.

Clearly Tennessee was better than us last season. They had 3 SEC victories to our 2.

IMO, LSU should be #2. VaTech will be good, but honestly I don't think they'd stand a chance against UF or LSU...We easily should be ahead of UGA, but such is life. We'll get our shot to prove these guys wrong on Nov. 28th.

Charlie K = dumba$$ TN? How in the name of God do u put them ahead of us. I foresee us having a better yr than Ole Miss too. I see them winning 8-9 games again but not making the jump to elite status.

VPISU really only showed me last year that there's some minor daemon ruling over his own patch of hell that gives them good luck. To say that they closed the season strong is to ignore that they barely beat a "great" Duke team missing its QB, barely beat a UVA team that didn't make a bowl game, and competently beat a Cinci team that we would have walked right over. Nothing about VPISU leads me to think they're better then they were last season, and nothing about last season lead me to believe that they were legitimately good.

If I'm not mistaken, that guy also writes for CFN and picked against us EVERY GAME last season. If it's not him, I know it's one of them.

I still enjoy most of their stuff, though. I'm anxious to see their GT's '09 preview.

I am actually happy with the poll posted. I do not think it's accurate. But, I will be content in knowing that to some extent next year we will be flying under the radar.

I don't think we're flying under the radar if we start the season ranked in the top 15, which we look to be.

I'm sick of flying under the radar. Flying under the radar means you're not respected. You know how everyone complains about how the SEC is overrated and people get voted ahead based on name? Well they didn't get there by flying under the radar.

At some point, to be great, you have to win when people expect you to win and are talking about you. It's all well and good when you're churning off wins while being under the radar, but that should only go so far as to put you on the map. Let's stop wishing for flying under the radar, and wish to be a program that people know/expect to be good, and we follow through with that.

Yeah i would have to concur!!! When did it become cool to have a average mindset?!?!? I mean 7-9 wins and a bowl game is not the mind of a champion. A lot of the fans need to realize that ASAP!!! The team now is wanting championships and they are not settling for less. It is about time we think like that also!!!

Back to the post... We should at least be top 4 (toss pick with Alabama). Ole Miss is a one year wonder and good ole VaTech is overrated. I got all my money on the Yellow Jackets that they will dominate this coming year and beyond!!!

Little Predication nugget for ya:
Florida, Louisiana State, and Tech will be a clear Top 3 on this poll by next seasons end.
2nd Tier:
Ole Miss, Alabama, VPI&SU, Florida State

CROW is going to be a tasty dish for MOST "experts" next year--my crystal ball says TECH will win it ALL!!
