Never saw much here about the press conference yesterday morning. One glaring thing that stuck out in my mind is that CPJ says he hasn't been happy. His body language and tone makes it seem as if he's not happy here. I almost fully expect to see him coaching somewhere in the next 2 years and that sucks.

Two other questions I have that came up during the press conference.

1) Is this gray pullover available to purchase anywhere? I want one:

2)Why is Ted Cruz at CPJ's retirement press conference?

I agree about the pullover. I was looking on the bookstore website yesterday and didn't see it on there, sadly.

One thing that stuck out to me was that CPJ mentioned that he would have left around 2015-2016 had Todd not come in as AD. I can't even imagine how bad things were under Bobinski.

I found it interesting and didn't think of this. TStan talked about the connections and sounding board he has gained being part of the CFP committee. I would hope and think being around all those key players in college football would be an advantage during a coaching search.

Makes you appreciate how bad things must be at Louisville that they can't even get an alum to leave MBob and West Lafayette, Indiana for their job.

Oh, he'll definitely be coaching again somewhere.

My impression is that CPJ doesn't handle criticism very well. He's had a career with surprisingly little threat to his job until the last several years, and now he can afford to walk away. I wouldn't be surprised if he just does some consulting work in the future without having to deal with annoying fans and media.

My impression is that CPJ was just as unhappy with the erratic and disappointing team play post-2014 as the fans and posters here have been. He never looked complacent or apathetic about our failures. He looked miserable in a lot of the post-game pressers and during the TV and radio shows.

I mean, CPJ has lost a lot more at GT than he has anywhere else. In eleven years at Southern and Navy, he lost 39 games. In eleven years at GT, he lost 59 games. That's striking.

And consider... at Southern he had a .861 record, won the conference every single year, and won the big prize twice. At Navy after the initial rebuilding year he had a .671 record, and went 11-1 against his chief rivals, all the while reviving a program that was essentially a zombie before he got there. (They went 1-20 in the two seasons before he got there.) At Tech, on the other hand, his record is .581, and he's 3-8 against his chief rival.

I think he felt after 2008-2009 that he could do here what he'd done at Southern and Navy. And after several years hamstrung by Al Groh, 2014 gave him some hope that it was doable. But the past four seasons have been miserably uneven and inconsistent, and eventually he realized he just couldn't get the program to a point where it was winning consistently. Of course that would be tiring.

I'm still sad to see him go because I think he's a good coach, but I also respect that there is a time and season to everything. Time for a young guy not named Ken to come in here and get us excited about something new again.

Those are a bunch of beautiful people, eh?

That stuck out to me too. I think the biggest reason it stopped being fun for him is the expectation that he be able to do more with less and he couldn't. While those around us were ramping up the arms race we weren't doing anything to increase the draw for recruits to choose GT. He probably saw the diminishing returns and figured it was a losing battle. Todd has provided some hope, but we're far behind and it takes a long time to catch up and turn things in your favor.

The more time passes, the more it seems like Mike Bobinski really ööööed us over. I'm sure the losing sucked for CPJ, but it was probably even worse to have the magical 2014 season and still have Bobinski reluctant to sign an extension, unwilling to make changes to stop handicapping our program, and refusing to pay to hire and retain quality assistant coaches. I don't blame him at all for leaving, and I will cheer for him wherever he goes (except against GT, obviously).

In hindsight, that makes 2014 even more remarkable. The fact that we were able to have such a great season in spite of an AD already looking for a way out and so many recruiting and academic obstacles.

That's what I'm starting to see too. I recall a while back PJ made a comment about never really seeing him (MBob). I guess he just didn't care about football, or maybe even GT for that matter.
