Problem is NOT the offense

Been watching Tech 'ball for 65+ years in person and "otherwise" I don't post much on here but monitor all the time. I don't bash the jackets win or lose--BUT--gotta say this. Tech's problem is NOT CPJ's offense (just check the numbers) like the offense or not , the problem is and has been the D. I hate to say it but you must have a D that can give at least 2-3 critical stops in a game when it is crunch time AND we have been "lacking" this game element for quite sometime. Sad to say. You can't simply outscore the opponent all the time.--(be gentle with rebukes-just my observation).

Do you think the offense takes away from our defense in terms of preparing them for 100% of the opponents on our schedule? That’s the question. The offense is fine but at what cost with how unconventional it is?

I don't think it takes away from special teams and they suck too...

If you can't be original, be passionate. That's my motto. Like a high energy cover band at a wedding.

Not trying to rehash "old" topics but tired of seeing CPJ's schemes bashed so much when the elephant is the D and i greatly "admire" good defensive play. Maybe CONSECRATE more on defense recruiting, place the designated "athletes" in defensive positions, address the main ISSUE instead of bolstering an area that's NOT a problem. Woody may be the eventual answer BUT he has to play with the pieces in place. BUT i will state that the O must have a "semblance" of a passing attack to be truly effective (but that is whole nother issue).

I personally have never seen the reason behind this argument. The object is ALWAYS to tackle/ intercept the ball regardless of the offense involved. Be "positionally" aware and defend your space. Be a "ballhawk" and tough. Sounds simple and maybe a little "naive" but when i played defense that ball was MINE and i wanted it back.

We have a system on offense. Ma Tech won’t let us recruit defensive players, which by the way is why we are awful on special teams.
Tech used to bring in the Darryl Smith, Key Fox, Brookings, Lucious, Harris, et al. We used to bring in three to five Super Southern 100 players, not anymore.
The GT president sucks and he really sucks in bringing in football players. I would have enjoyed watching Pj play the big boys just one year with his gimmicks.
The Hill will never let that happen.

And how did those teams do that have those types of players, yeah you might bring in one or two but we need 11. Let me ask one simple question, are there 22 4 and five star players In the state of Georgia that could actually, legitimately, get into Georgia Tech, and pass the classes? Oh and also want to be engineers?

I’ve heard people say over and over we are not them, And that is so true and we never will be.

How many of our current players are engineering majors?

of course the problem is not the offense. but paul is over the defense and special teams, too.
Bingo! PJ is over all recruiting of players. Each year, as in the past he gets his choice of offensive players, the defensive coach gets what's left. I'm not sure if it's still the same, but for years PJ was the ST coach too.

Until we have a decent defense, I feel like there is no choice but to accept the axiom that our offense is what prevents us from having a good defense. I'm really pulling for Woody to prove otherwise and show that the problem has been talent + coaching all along.

IMO there is no one silver bullet, meaning that we only need to fix one thing and we'll be OK. We certainly have some problems on defense, including a significant learning curve with the new scheme, talent fitting new scheme, inexperienced secondary, targeting calls in USF game, etc. BUT STILL - if the offense had executed when the chips were down in the fourth quarter, we'd have won the game - and not just the USF game but several more in 2017. And since Butker graduated, our kickoff team.... you get the idea.
For the record, I think Woody will prove to be a fine hire for Tech, but he'll need some time.

There will be no rebukes, you post is remarkable. I thought we had those two critical stops Saturday, and felt comfortable when we finally went up by two scores and had the football. But then the wheels came off and like four times last year, we relinquished a two score lead in the second half to lose the game. In those circumstances it IS the offense. Because if your philosophy is "score every possession, we don't need a defense" then failure to score is a problem.

Oh yeah?? What do you know?
