I've heard talk that we've got a good one. Looked him up on the roster. I guess he's a JUCO transfer from Georgia Military college. (If my brain is working correctly) Anybody got some info? I think people were comparing him to the guy from Wake which would be fantastic.
I just remember back in the day that Rodney Williams won us a couple games with some 60+ yarders. I'm just hoping that we could have another punter do it again.

Best Punting Average
Game: 53.3, Rodney Williams vs. Duke, 1997 (3 punts)
Season: 45.64, Rodney Williams, 1997
Career: 41.42, Rodney Williams, 1995-98
Sorry, I just feel punting is WAY underrated.

Arndt didn't have a real strong leg (although he did hit, what a 60 yarder against Miami?), but he was deadly accurate at dropping that ball inside the 10...IMO that's more difficult than booming a long one.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually it was a 78 yarder. That was a monster punt.

ShoooooooooooooDoggie,
Wha'chu talkin about. This past season we could have used our best scholly on a punter. The punter we have is a "dead-eye Dan" on accuracy but the way we've played this past season, we really needed a Howitzer or a rocket launcer.
Maybe the new man can give us the distance IF we ever need it again.
Thanks for posting this info for us.

you are talking about Durant Brooks. He was a good overall athlete so I hope he emerges as a dominant punter this year. We can use Arndt for the chip shots near the end zone.

I actually have known Durant Brooks for years and he is a great all-around athlete. He was a very good high school basketball player also. In high school, he did a really good job with hangtime and distance and pinned people deep. In my opinion, he was a better punter than Kyle Belcher.

well since Belcher never punted for us, duh...

but I know Durant and his daddy too so good for him. He was a hell of a 3 point shooter...

I saw Belcher punt plenty and Durant even more, and Durant did have more distance.

Of course, I'm not trying to say that either one of them is as good as Ryan Plackemeier.

Is Durant, Coach Brooks' son? I had a Coach Paul Brooks in HS Football back at TSA in Macon in 1982. He was our offensive coordinator. Also HC of our basketball team. I think that he is still around at TSA. If he is one and the same, I would love to see his boy get some extensive PT. Man, that makes me feel old though.

Durant Brooks is an excellent punter that averaged 40 ypp as a freshman and sophomore on the JUCO level. Supposedly has excellent hang time and consistency. I have not heard his net numbers.

I have seen no one close to the program or from the staff compare hime to Plackemeier from Wake Forest. That guy is the best punter in ACC history with a 47 ypp avg. and 41.5 net. That net number is simply unreal.

GaTech has had 6 punters average over 40 ypp (not net) in their career:
1) Rodney Williams (41.42)
2) Dan Dyke (41.37)
3) Harper Brown (41.10)
4) Jason Bender (40.92)
5) Jeff Pierce (40.76)
6) Ron Rice (40.27)

The highest single season averages were Rodney Williams (45.64 in 1997) and Jason Bender (45.51 in 1994).

The only thing that kept Rodney Williams from averaging 50 ypp was about 1 out of every 10 kicks would go a line drive sideways that would nearly kill any players standing on the sideline without a helmet on!
