I just hope we can keep him.

However, he seems to me to be a much more accurate passer than Jeff Sims ever was, or is ever going to be. I never liked what I saw from Sims throwing the ball, and that goes all the way back to the first time I saw him against FSU. Already Pyron looks much better.

I would like to understand why they didn't play him earlier. Redshirting isn't really a thing any more. Here today; gone to USC/Bama/ugag tomorrow. That is NCAA football in 2022.

The only thing I can think of is that Jeff is more mobile and faster and with the o line how it is, it’s def needed but Jeff didn’t even run this year how he has in the past.. no way Gibson should be over Pyron on depth chart tho

Everyone says this but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of transfers still take a step down. Someone like Gibbs is the exception rather than the rule.

One of our guys makes plays for Arkansas. I noticed another making some for Ole Miss last night. We are a farm team!
 
The vast majority of players do not transfer. Y’all are being quite extreme with the portal talk. Sure, it’s an option but most teams who aren’t dumpster fires don’t have much of an issue. The reason we have former players on SEC rosters today is because of the incompetence of the previous guy. For me, the only guy I’m worried about portaling out that would impact us next year is McCollum. He’s by far our best returning player and would actually benefit a big time team. I’d hate to lose Blackburn as he looks to be the real deal but he is no McCollum and WR’s are a dime a dozen these days.

Not to mention Chico Bennett making plays for UVA in Bobby Dodd last week. It paints a picture that maybe, outside OL, we have had talent on the roster.

And how did Sims do against FSU? What was the game result?

We have talent on our current roster. Won’t be surprised if 5 or so guys on defense play in the NFL. When you look at the guys excelling at other schools (Gibbs, Bennett, Walker, Ivey, Sanders, Griffin, etc) is really shows you how terrible our coaching has been for 4 years.
 
Look at the recruiting ratings on rivals comparing cpj versus collins. Classes that collins recruited were larger, but not better. Also, the best players transferred, I.e., Gibbs, Ivey, and domineck (whom cpj signed). All 3 start for real football teams. There is a severe talent deficit to expect an interim,coach to transform it all on short notice. We now have an offense that is not unique (as was the spread option), yet we have inferior talent to run the same offense that everyone else uses and knows how to best defend. Need a complete overhaul, yet it is unfair to put undue blame on key at this point, considering the dearth of talented people (Especially linemen).
