You need your buzzcard to get a ticket (or a block) but do they scan your buzzcard at the gate to confirm you're an active student?

They only did the scanning one time (Gardner Webb). I was out of town that game but apparently there were lines, so they are supposedly not doing it this weekend.

The normal procedure is just to look at your buzzcard not scan it.

Basketball uses scanning all the time and they also use online ticketing system.

Also, to hijack your thread :P, in the past they have given me tickets from non-student sections when I was late to pick up tickets. I assume they ran out of student section tickets.

If someone knows, are they doing that for UVA game if they don't sell everything out?

I have heard conflicting reports on whether they will be scanning for this game. As of yesterday, I heard they ARE still scanning. They scan your Buzzcard to confirm that not only are you an active student, but that you'd paid the athletic fee for the semester. Once you've had your Buzzcard swiped, it can't be swiped again for the same game.

kyle, can you be a full-time student and not pay the athletic fee? do you lose CRC access and games if you do that?

I used to sneak in my wife with a student ticket, got her a guest ticket this week for the first time because of scanning.

Conversely, can I pay the athletic fee, and get student tickets, but not be a student?

That's the same thing you're getting for me right? Seeing as I don't have a BuzzCard :eek5:

when the people who were camping out for my block's tickets got up they asked about the whole scanning thing and they were told that they were not planning on scanning anymore this year, but the plan was to switch to turnstiles next year where you have to swipe your buzzcard to get in...this is still going to be gay as i'm graduating this year and was planning on mooching off student tickets for at least 2 more years...bah humbug...

No. I am pretty sure you are required to pay the athletic fee and CRC fee if you are taking 12 or more hours.

Also, you can pay the athletic/CRC fee if you are a student but not taking any classes, ie interning. Pretty sure you can't do this if you are not a student though :).

Yeah, that's what I am doing this semester.

Thanks Robert for the note. We are working with the Student Gov't to resolve some of those issues ... and please know we are well aware of them.

Scanning technology is available and was done at Gardner Webb, however there are still kinks in processing the large group of students into the game in a short window of time.

I have my own bias on block ticketing , but those rules are set by the Student Gov't ticketing committee.
We are planning to increase the student allocation for this game and additional tickets are available today.

Thanks again for the note.

Thanks, looks like they are giving some of the unsold tickets to students. That will help a lot with the crowd.
