Question about the Clemmonses

One of you highly observant football expert types tell me: Does Clemson have a reputation for excellent conditioning or do they tend to wheeze out late in tough games? I sort of thought that they got a little bit winded in the Twerps loss and in their Bowl Movement last year against Auburn. Can we reasonably expect them to gas late in the game against us?

I don't know about their conditioning (which I think is overrated anyway - athletes at this level are all well conditioned). I think the game dictates which team will get worn down - for example, our defense may be "more conditioned" than an opponent but if we're on the field 10 minutes more then we're going to be more worn down at the end.

I do think we have an advantage in trenches (D vs. O for sure) but I can't rule out that they've improved from game 1 to game 7. I just hope their O line doesn't pick game 7 as their coming out party.

Clemson lacks a certain poise due to Tommy Bowden. Still, I expect them to come out this week and beat Wake Forest. I expect our game to be every bit as hard as VA Tech. They have too much talent for a blowout. Think back to the Alabama game. Clemson quit in the 2nd half and UGA didn't.

they play the same 3 at lBs whole game no reserves that can do anything. After they will be running sideline to sideline all day they will be spent..ie if were up on them i would most likely see them quiting. They could be in real disarray by this thus nite by 11:00Am in Winston.

I am not too conscerned about their defense, but their offense can create some issues.

We must contain Spiller and Davis. If we can stop them, it is an easy game for us. Cullen (their QB) doesn't scare me whatsoever averaging less than 200 yds passing a game.

I don't want to see a rerun of the CJ Spiller coming out pary in 2006. When Davis and Spiller are on, we know from experience that it is very scary. We also have not had to face any running backs as good as these two. The best running back we have faced is Evans at VT. We had a bit of difficulty with him, but we weren't at full force on defense in that game.

I am not too worried because our D-Line is crazy awesome and if we have all of our LBs in this game, we should be cool. Plus, they lost to a mediocre Maryland team at home last week which must hurt the morale of this team.

Call me a worry wart, but this is gonna be a tough game. Number one it's at Death Valley and if it's a night game...look out! Remember 2006? Awful. IF and granted it's a big "IF", but if Clemson can figure out that they need to keep feeding the ball to Spiller and Davis, it will open up their passing game and they could be real trouble.

PLUS, they have not had their "resurgance game" they always seem to have every year where they look like world beaters. In 2006 they looked like National champs against us. Granted, the 2006 and 2003 debacles were under the old administration but Clemson has a history of getting ready and playing some of their best against GT. This is a big game for them too! Granted they also play pretty poorly against us too (but rarely at home).

If we can take them (especially at night) at Clemson, it will be CPJ's biggest win to date no doubt!

It is going to be a tough game, no doubt, but it's a noon game, unfortunately. I still think this will be the toughest team we've faced to date. They may not be well coached, but they still have a ton of talent, and that has to count for something.

Thanks for the gametime correction. I feel a LITTLE better about our chances now. It's still gonna be a tough test, but one that will prepare our young team for MANY more tough tests the rest of the way this season.

I am very concerned about or LB's ability to contain Spiller.

If we can keep Spiller under 100 yds rushing I like our chances. If not, I hope our offense starts to click better. We're still not quite up to Navy's standards yet.

Noon game is good for us, especially with a Tommy Bowden team. They played so well against us last year in part because of how pumped up the crowd was. This time it will be a funeral and I don't think they'll get up for it.

Part of the reason Spiller and Davis ran wild over us in 2006 was due to our LBs not being in position. We continually brought them on blitzes and Clemson made us pay big time. I doubt we see a repeat of that with our new defensive scheme.

I didn't see that problem last year though. No point to make really, but I agree that our LB's will be in better position to stop the run.
