Has anyone done any advance scouting or have any intimate knowledge of Vandy and/or BYU? Those are 2 teams on our schedule that we normally don't see. I might do a little digging around about Vandy from Lindy's and whatnot, but I don't have much info on BYU.

Ya know, we all seem to take Vandy for granted. They're Vandy...the Dook of the SEC. They never beat anyone that's worth a darn. But if you look at some of their past games, they always seem to give certain teams trouble. That includes UT, UGA and Bama. We can not afford to overlook Vandy. They just might slip up on us and beat us if we don't focus.

Who said they were the next game and therefore our most important? Was that Belly who said that? Well, it's just under 3 months away.

Vandy will not lay down for us to beat them, but I think we will be favored. We have some continuity in the offensive coaching staff, and should be in better hands defensively.

They have a new coach and we have a new coach, but I feel our coach has the most experience. Playing at BDS should help us a little, but we had better be ready to play.

Vandy we should take to the woodshed. They have a new coach and are coming off a disappointing season.

Our strong D should keep their scoring to a minimum. Our O should be able to put up good points. If we do not win this game strongly it will not be a good sign.

The worrisome game is the BYU game. They have a high octane Off. that stretches the D. We will find out how our passing D is on that game.

But here again they lost many good players and this is a game we should handle.

Vandy should not be a difficult game, but with our new coaching staff, it will probably be tougher than expected. Hopefully, they won't mess it up while they are learning.

Yes, bug, I was one who voted for Vandy as most important since they're the next game. Still think so.

law, all you have to do is substitute GT for "Vandy" in your first sentence and you're describing us. I've got a couple of nephews in school up there and they were really high on Vandy's team before last season, and were seriously disappointed. Vandy will be tough at least for a half, I'm guessing, but we've got more horses.

Plus we've got a coaching experience edge big time. Furman is not the Dallas Cowboys.

On the other hand, all Vandy-or Duke for that matter-needs is a coach who knows what he's doing.Nobody could have been as pitiful as Northwestern 10 years ago, now look.

Furman may not be the Dallas Cowboys but Vandy's coach knows how to coach college football.
We will see if 'Buck' can remember how or not.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">If we have trouble with Vandy we will be lucky to go .500. This is a game we need to have a 10pt lead at half and win by &gt;14pts.

If not it is going to be a long year. You look at our schedule and we have 9 tougher games than Vandy.

If we cant handle them it will be the worst year in quite awhile.

A struggle against Vandy won't signal a tough year. Remember in 2000, we had a tough go of it against UCF. Personally, I expect us to struggle somewhat in this game for a number of reasons. First, we have a new coaching staff. Secondly, we have a new QB. Thirdly, we have an entirley new defensive scheme. Finally, I expect us to struggle because it is Vandy. UT, UGA, and other good SEC teams have struggled against Vandy. If we struggle against UCONN, then, I'll worry.

I tend to agree with Indian Buzz. If we struggle with Vandy, I'll be a little disappointed, but it won't necessarily mean the year is in the tank. UConn is a different matter entirely.

Vanderbilt should be an easy mark. Their coaching change has been viewed as a disappointment locally and they lost their best player by far Greg Zolman/QB and have no experience at backup. I think everyone will be surprised if they have any kind of a year. Of course, Vandy fans (and they do exist) are eternally optimistic at the onset of each season.
I agree that if TECH doesn't take them out, ala Navy last year or something thereabouts, its as good as a loss and a very bad portent of things to come. One game at a time, however.

LETS GO TECH!!!

I do not expect Vandy to be a pushover by any stretch.... opening games are always tough... it is rare that a team opens up without wrinkles... I dont expect us to.... we didnt last year... the game against Syracuse was not a pretty game to watch... Burns didnt really get going until the 4th quarter... and with the exception of our passing duo, the O looked sluggish... the D had some great licks, but playing within schemes was a problem.... we didnt show cohesion last year until the 3rd game of the season... you never know how a team will be ... but I expect us to be working out wrinkles... and expect us to wear down Vandy akin to the way we played against Stanford.... it wont be easy.. but we will win...

If we don't beat Vandy, and beat 'em bad, we'll never hear the end of it from the leg humpers.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about the Pup fans saying a lot. They've barely escaped Vandy more times than they'd like to imagine. I'm sure that many also remember Homecoming 1994 when Vandy crashed the party. As I've said before, I'm expecting a close game.

BTW, why do locals look at Bobby Johnson and his staff as disappointments?

We will be favored to beat Vandy, but it will not be a disappointment to the poll voters if we beat them 20-17. It will only be a disappointment if we lose to them at BDS.

With a new head coach, new assistants, new QB, and new running backs, we will not be expected by the oddsmakers to have a huge edge on Vandy like some are predicting.

The oddsmakers will probably render us no more than a seven point favorite. Check this post again after the oddsmakers have made their bets.

Guys...

Vandy will be an easy win. I know that on any given Saturday any college team can get beat but the reality is that this Jacket team is hungry. They have something to prove after last year and I think they will prove it. With O'Brien back don't worry about the offense and our defense is stacked!

We will blow Vandy out and I will tell you like I tell them... it's hard to run the option against a team that runs it as well. We have the horses they don't and I look for a big win to open the new season at BDS.

Beesnut.. I love your optimism.... it would be great to watch a game with you !!

Hehe thanks! I go to as many games as I can and I also have a Georgia Tech room with widescreen tv and theater surround sound for the games I can't. Heck any Tech fan is welcome to watch a game with me.
