Ummm.... maybe I'm missing something here, but this guy is a blowheart based on his own definition. He didn't go to ugay did he? Just because his son went there doesn't qualify him based on his own definition.

Good luck explaining this to him.
That's exactly what I was going to point out.

This topic comes up every now and again. Most all of us agree that a fan is a fan, and that's a good thing. The only difference is that alumni usually cannot seperate the football/basketball/sport team from the Institute, while a non-alumni will look at the Yellow Jackets only.

I got in an friendly argument with the douche bag at work. He is a transplant UGAy fan from Florida so former Gator but fits the Dawg nation quite well. He transformed due to his son going to UGAy and it took him 7 years to get his degree.. Anyways... I'll get on with the question.

He likes to state that you're not a real fan if you didn't go to the school , that anyone who is not a student/alumni is a blowheart that just pretends to be a fan. This comment really burns my ass but I want to know some folks opinions.

You certainly don't need to be a student or an alum to be a Tech fan, but when you talk about TechNation it does seem that very few "other fans" are out there. This is a typical scenario for me down here--I go to the Buccaneers' game and in the crowd I see someone with Tech gear on tailgating by a vehicle with Tech decals on it. High fives are exchanged, and it is determined what year he graduated---OR his kid goes there, etc. I am certain it is different in the metro Atlanta area, but here no body but grads or students would be wearing the gear in the first place. Maybe with continued success that will change.

I lived up at Tech when my ex was going there but no, I became a Huge fan about 5 years ago and I love everything about Tech. My grandfather played under Bobby dodd as a strong safety, that was the reason I started to fall in love with Georgia Tech football.

I go to Kennesaw. My girlfriend is a Tech student and I completely fell in love with the campus and the Jackets in 2007. Before that, I was a Clemson "fan" (I never went to the games, my family is just from SC and my aunt went there) hence the "cu" in my name. After going to just ONE GT football game I was hooked and got rid of everything orange in my closet/room. Don't get me wrong, I've still got some love for the tigers, but they can't even come close to how I feel about the Jackets.

I defy you to find someone who loves the Institute more than I do (besides The Jacket ;)). I sat in classes with my girlfriend there to kill time on Fridays when I didn't have class at KSU. On the weekends I hung out with old high school friends there and went to parties. I helped my girlfriend's sorority and friends' fraternities prepare for homecoming and Greek Week activities. Hell, I even ran in the cake race my freshman year of college even though I couldn't win it! I bought season tickets this year but sit in the south stands with a block of some of the most die-hard students at Tech. And for crying out loud, I spend most of my free time debating and discussing all things GT on StingTalk.

So no, you don't have to go to Tech or have gone to Tech to be a fan. Fan is short for "fanatic", and as long as you love Tech and support the Jackets, you're a fan whether you went there or not.

That's completely idiotic of that UGA guy to say. Technically, he didn't go to Georgia so therefore he is not a fan by his own rules.

To Hell with Georgia, and I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and you are too.
