How does Redshirting a player work? Do you declare him redshirt prior to the year during the year or after the year? If redshirted can't he still play?(I remember Bilbo playing Navy 2 years ago?) What are the ins and outs of the process? Anyone who can show me where it is or knows please help me. Thanks

hopefully others will correct me here, because its been a while since I looked at the rules for red shirting... but, if a SA plays more than 3 games in a season they cannot be red shirted... and you can only red shirt one year.. of course, there are medical red shirts.. but those can be rare... you can red shirt in any year.. sometimes due to depth at a certain position etc. the decision will be made early.. many times its a wait and see..

If I understand correctly

A redshirt is not asked for before the season; it is granted after the season. To get a redshirt the player cannot have played BUT if the player was 'injured' in one of the first three games and doesn't play at all after the third game the redshirt is automatically granted.
