Questions about the Offensive Line

Tonights game was fantastic and I believe we all got a nice taste of what we will be seeing in the years to come.

Now that we've been able to see how we look in a real game, I'd hearing the learned opinions of those who understand a lot about the offensive line (refrigeratormover--do you have any eligibility left):

1) Do you think we will be able to run up the middle against good to great D-lines (BC, VT, MSU, Clemson, U[sic]GA).

2) What sort of pass protection will we be able to get against a typical d-line versus the world beater d-lines we will see against some teams?

3) Will the offense work against an average defense if we struggle to run the ball between the tackles?

I think we have a great shot at a bowl season---but between the kicking game and what looked like (to the untrained eye) potential problems on O-line--I think there is reason to worry. If these units were solid I'd be more confident.

Great game. Great effort tonight. Go Tech. Thank God for Paul Johnson.

I'm very worried about the OL. After talking to the OL coach and a couple of my OL buddies at the game last night, I'm very worried. I'm not taking anything away from AG, but the rest of the boys need to step up.

SBP, the effort was there but they do need to gel and gel in a hurry. I can't wait to watch it on css so I can watch them a little better.

Is it a case of they are thinking too much - worried about getting assignments right - or do you think it is an effort/motivation thing.

It was hard to keep up (listened/watched on the net) but it didn't seem like we had that many illegal motion/formation penalties (I only remember two). That surprised me given that this is a completely different offense. We seemed more organized on offense than in the recent past which I was pretty happy about.

But CPJ, in his brief halftime comments, was extremely not happy with the OL performance so I imagine (and hope) that any effort issues will be addressed immediately as BC will eat us alive if we play like that up there.

If the problems are hesitation over thinking too much then I am not sure there is really anything that can be done to accellerate the learning process other than just more practice. It'll just have to work itself out over time. Unfortunately, BC and VT will not wait till we get things straightened out.

Yes, they are over analyzing everything which turns to coming off ball slow, late, hesitant, you name it. They need to step up.

I was getting a little irritated with the O-Line when we couldn't punch it in from the one yard line.

You should be able to blow JState's D-Line off the ball.

A buddy and I were saying the same thing. We're supposed to be seeing a lot more drive blocking from the line and it just didn't appear like we could actually blow them off the line.

I'm no expert but it appears to me that they haven't adjusted very well to the wider splits used in this offense. The DL seemed to be shooting the gaps way to much

While we have seen what this offense is capable of, we also haven't seen what this offense is capable of.:fingersx::ugh:

Bingo that the wider splits seemed to be a problem. Jax lineman were shooting the gaps and penetrating and our linemen seemed too slow to cut them off. Especially between center and guard. I was disappointed in this aspect too just watching the game. They weren't a solid wall and allowed too much penetration on passing situations or when going wide.

Didn't really clear any big holes for the B backs either.
