QB- I expect Nesbitt to be very improved by game 4 or 5 this year from what he was this spring and last year. He missed alot of the spring with injuries and all he really needs is some reps... He had the tools, the quickness, the arm, and the size to make plays in this offense. The question is can he be mentally prepared to run this offense and make all the right reads and pitches? Booker provides good backup and incoming freshmans Shaw and TW ran this offense in HS. 6.5
AB/BB- Dwyer, Jones, both Evans, Smith, Cox, Kelly, and not to mention incoming frosh Parade AA Marcus Wright and speedy Embry Peeples coming in. This group should be very strong by mid to late in the season and the future. 7.5
WR- BeBe and Earls are the only experienced WRs we have. People transferring from this position have left this position thin. Any incoming WR freshmen should have a chance at some PT this season. Kevin Cone and Tyler Melton had a very productive spring. 6
OL- Gardner, Voss, Howard, Yandell, Brown, Hill all have alot of experience and if they can pick up their blocks they should be alot better thn last years OLine (last years OLine was very overrated). 8

Defense
DL- MJ, Richards, Walker, Morgan should all be beast this year, while Egbinuwe, Anyaibe, Hall, and Peters all provide good depth. This is definetely the strength of the team. I feel sorry for any OLine that has to face this DLine... actually... no i don't lol... GIVE EM HELL GT DLINE... 10
LB- Barnes and Bowen have experience while i think Jefferson is going to be one of the best LBs to come thru GT. We need to find some depth. Griffin Tongo, and hopefully Chambers will rpovide some good depth. We have 2 or 3 very good LBs coming in this fall that are in that freshman class (Munroe and Sylvester). 7.5
DB- JWD i think will have an outstanding senior year at CB and Morgan Burnett is already a All-American safety/rover and he's only and upcoming sophmore. Hopefully Terrant or Butler and fill the other CB spot. We need to find a FS. Either Reese or an incoming freshman will fill that spot. I think this years DBs will be better coached than the past years DBs were. I think we'll be okay in the secondary. 7

Special Teams
PK- God i hope Blair is a good FG kicker because we really don't have anyone else to kick FGs. He'll have to fill Travis Bell's spot who had a good senior year last year.
P- either Krosby, Yahiaoui, or Blair will take this job. Replacing Durant Brooks will be VERY VERY VERY hard. I think Krosby will get the punting gig.
KOS- Blair did a good job last year and should do even better in '08.
KR/PR- I have no idea who will be the kick or punt returners for '08.

Gotta disagree on the point that it will be that hard to replace Brooks. What I saw at the Spring Game was an absolute golden cannon of a leg. I really started worrying about the safety of the T after a while.

Special Teams is a big thing to keep an eye on because it took us a while to get that house in order and when we finally did the staff was shaken up.

I am glad to hear that you have so much confidence in Brooks replacement...However, he will have to step in a perform consistantly over a period of time prior to me being able to say that he's replaced Brooks. He is a incredible punter....All that to say...I hope you are correct...It sure would be nice to quickly fill in the huge void that Brooks leaves behind....Again, Not attacking or subtracting from anything you've said.

By the way thanks for the perspective/update on what you witnessed in his potential replacement...& the comment on the "safety of the tee" was FUNNY!

Cool Post

QB- 6.5 is right on. Talent needs to learn the system & very untested/unproven. Little experienced depth to fit the system.
BB/AB- Talent, but little experience. A back depth could be an issue. Agree 7.5 is about right.
WR- 6 for recieving, but I'll bump it up to 7.5 because our WR's are really good at blocking.
OL- I disagree here. None of the OL have experience in the system, and none of Voss, Howard, Yandell, Brown, & Hill have a year under their belt starting. OL was horrible in the spring (I know there were injuries), and the OL remains a huge unknown. I give it a 5.0 right now. Here's hoping to Fall improvement.

DL-Agree
LB-Agree. Unproven, but talent is there. Cream will rise to the top.
DB-I'll go lower because of lack of depth and experience, and needing to find two starters (half the secondary). Like OL they may come on and improve, but right now I'll go with a 5.5.

ST- I look for some good things here, as we combine one of the better coverage ST's of 2007 (GT under coach Kelly) and one of the best return games in college football (Navy- their ST coordinator is now at GT). On the other hand, the kickers are unknown. I'll go with 7.0 based on good coaching/emphasis by PJ in this area, and the assumption the kickers will be at least average.

gtfan09 - Agree with most but...

OL overated last year? Gardner was All-ACC, Rhodes was a 3 year starter, and Tums & McManus were signed as free agents for the Saints. The OL led or was at the top in the ACC in for line stats.

The play of the OL this year depends on the performance of Voss at center and him staying healthy. We have no depth at center with Dummon leaving. If Howard and Smith come back 100% healthy, the line could be formidable. The line play at the Spring game was poor. That will not be the starting line-up for the first game this Fall.

I appreciate your generosity toward the receivers, offensive line, linebackers and defensive backs. Beyond Burnett, too much is unknown in the defensive backfield and at linebacker for me to feel comfortable. I like our defensive line and offensive backs but don't know what to expect from special teams so I agree with your ratings there. QB will likely make or break this team.

The OLine last year wasn't overrated... but they weren't near as good as people were acting like. BC's DLine destroyed our OLine consistently, and the OLine is the main reason we lost the Maryland game (the holding penalty that put us out of FG range).

QB - 6 to start 8 by seasons end
OL - 6 to start 8 by seasons end if things go like they should
WR - 5 to start (depth) 7 by seasons end
B-back - 8 to start but may not look it due to QB and OL
A-back - 7

DL - 9 still some ? at one end and DT rotation
LB - 6.5 near 8 over time
CB - 6 just average as a unit today
S - 6, too big a ? at one spot to say much more than 6

Scale for me 9 - All - ACC caliber, potentially all american
8 - VERY good starters probably 2nd or 3rd team acc chance
7 - Solid 3 down unit
6 - About average for the league
5 - Average, but concerns with issues like depth

33, I agree totally.

If everything progresses, we can be a very good team by season's end. If not, we'll still be OK, and out D will hold us in there once again.

I think the coaching change will improve the DB situation more than some suspect. And a good pass rush without blitzing the safeties every other down should help as well...
