I obviously didn't see every game, but this is how I see the teams after watching some games and looking at the box scores for others.
1. FSU - I certainly don't think they are unbeatable, but right now they still deserve to be at the top. I don't think they will go undefeated in conference. The defense still looks vulnerable through the air.
2. GT - Most of the questions that we came into the season with are well on their way to being answered. The first AND second string offensive lines played well, Tony Hollings looks like a solid tailback, both Suggs and Bilbo played well, and the defense looks formidable against the run and pass. Yeah I know we didn't play a high quality team. That's why I said our questions are on their way to being answered, but not totally answered yet. We'll find out for sure in a few weeks against Clemson.
3. NC State - They have looked good in their first two games beating nobody of consequence. The offense, defense, and special teams have all looked good, but we may not really find out what this team is made of until they visit Texas Tech September 21.
4. Clemson - They played well against UGAg, and would have pulled out the win if their kicker would have made the 2 field goals he missed. The defense looks much better than last year. However, their offense is going to have to rely heavily on the passing game as they only gained 2 ypc against UGAg.
5. UNC - They lost to MAC powerhouse Miami (OH), but that was in large part due to 9 turnovers. That should be corrected, and the 'Heels will end up being an OK team.
6. Maryland - Their offense looked downright awful without Perry. They couldn't run or throw the ball. They may actually have a better chance of making a bowl game than UNC because of their schedule, but at this point I would put them behind the 'Heels. They have 4 easy games in the next 5 weeks to get their offense going, so perhaps the Fridge will be able to work his magic. The defense looked pretty good (no offensive TDs for the Irish), but Notre Dame doesn't exactly have an explosive offense.
7. UVA - They are too young to win many games, but I predict that they will upset someone this year, perhaps South Carolina this Saturday. The Cavs couldn't stop the 'Noles from running the ball (6.7 ypc and 397 yards on the ground). Their young team will get better as the year goes on.
8. Wake Forest - They lost to Northern 3. That's all that needs to be said. I thought Wake would be better than this. Maybe they can turn it around.
9. Duke - Woohoo! The streak is over! They might even win 3 games this year, but none of them will be in an ACC game. Northwestern and Navy will be the other games they have a real chance in.
Guys, the ACC looks really weak this year as there are only 4 teams that are very good. I'm not even going to bother debating the SEC vs ACC thing with anyone this year because our conference sucks at this point. Teams in the ACC will have to start beating teams from the MAC if we want to be taken seriously.
