Very curious as to why it's so tough to purchase a broad selection of quality Tech gear.
I have heard that Tech itself doesn't want too much out there, which is bewildering if true.
I am well aware of the "GT University" stuff and the like, that many of us have seen at one point, but it seems reasonable that if we had an agreement with someone other than Russell (Nike), the proper colors and logo wouldn't be a problem.

I know this question comes up often, but can someone sum up our relationship with Russell and why isn't Nike or Reebok or somebody else with a public appeal considered?
This seems like a no brainer. Thanks.

Went into Value City the other day, which has a wide selecton of UGAg and slightly less of a selection of Techstuff. One thing you notice immediately, 95% of all of UGAg's stuff is in UGAg red, as is to be expected. A few things in white with red "G" or "Georgia Bulldogs" on it, but mostly school colors. They have a real nice Georgia red insulated baseball style jacket with "Georgia" emblazened across it. Looks real nice. Bulldog fans have tons of neat stuff to choose from there.

Now to our stuff. Most is in gray or blue, in fact, NONE of it is in gold that I saw. Typical. The baseball style jacket is in blue (which I hate blue - we are NOT DAMN BLUE), instead of having "Georgia Tech" across the front or just plain "Tech", it has "Buzz" written across it. Who in the hell would want that? How does this crap get out.

Can we not get most of our stuff made in the school colors? I know the bookstore has stuff, but typically when you go to a sporting goods store, the crap in in blue or gray. Someone needs to license our stuff and demand that 95% of it is in school colors. At the game Saturday, it was quite noticable to me that our fans wore a full spectrum of colors while UGAg's wore RED.

JJ,
I noticed at Sam's here in Rome, that they were well endowed with the flea mdse. I'm not sure they ever heard of Ga Tech though.

If anyone wants Tech merchandise, go to Discover Mills in Duluth and visit Tailgater's Alley...Chris (GT alum and his wife Delane are awesome).
Nike has contacted them and "something" is in the works now about adding Tech merchandise.
Chris and Delane have some terrific stuff and if they can get it in Gold, they will get it in Gold.
Their phone number is 678.584.9688...
tell them Bleedgold sent ya!

Rome, I have two nice-looking lined, nylon pullover windshirts in navy w/ GA TECH in good looking tackle twill letters sewn onto the front, GT on the lh sleeve;letters on chest are Vegas Gold w/ white outline, sleeve is solid Vegas gold, trim on cuffs/neck is white/yellow but guess one can't have everything. Got one at Sams in Macon, one at Sams in Marietta, over course of the last two yrs. Havent seen anything this yr tho'.

Interestingly , the last time I was looking over the display an employee/associate asked if I found what I was looking for and I commented on the lack of GT items. She agreed w/ me and suggested I complete one of the comment cards available at the exit, said that the store mgrs really pay attention to them. Fill 'em out guys , let our wants/wishes/needs be known, it's our best chance at getting something done!

I was at the Bargain Barn in Jasper the other day and found some interesting GT items, mostly decorations/household stuff but good quality and different items. Turn right on the main aisle and go most of the way to the end, look to your left for the display.

I was in the bookstore the other day and bumped into Tommy Carmichael, who once handled place kicking duties for Coach Dodd and also roomed next to me freshman yr. He is presently a sales rep for Champion , who supplies a lot of our t-shirts and golf shirts. He said the Vegas gold is probably the closest to 'old gold' that we are gong to get. If anyone wants more info pm me and I will get in touch w/ Tommy for the answer.

For those of you who may find yourselves on I75 at Perry GA, Priesters restaurant at exit 135 has a good selection of GT stuff, mostly nonclothing items.

Do we want to set up a link for sources of GT logo items, similar to the BBQ link on the Hive? How about it admins, are you receptive to the challenge?

Last time I was at Tailgater's Alley, Chris said that they did not have a website yet, although they were working on it. I can't wait.

I absolutely agree. When I went to a game at the Orange Bowl two years ago the Miammaa fans had some good looking Nike shirts and hats (if you could stand the colors!)...

GT is very tight about who they let use the logo. If you want to get approval for an item, you have to present the 'actual' item for approval, not a mock-up, not a picture, not a drawing - the actual item.

My guess is, a lot of companies (big and small) don't feel like going to those lengths only to possibly be denied.

Thanks goldeage, as long as I have been shopping at Sam's, I did not ever know of a comment card system. I suppose that would be more appropriate than "YELLING ACROSS THE STORE". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif

Good deal GTW! If you keep in contact w/your friends, would you post here when they do get a website up and going?

All of the Ugag stuf is either red, black or white.

White is not a school color as we like to act like it is, every school in the nation gets white for free.

All of the Ga Tech stuff is Yellow, Cheddar, Gold, White, Black, Grey and Blue. WTF? Can't our marketing dept pick one shade of gold, then limit the color to only that shade of gold, blue and white? Why is this so hard?

I've been belly aching about this for awhile....

If you haven't seen my opus here it is.....

Also here is the link that describes Tech's Logo, color and trademarks guidelines....

TECH's GUIDELINES

Can we all e-mail Aimee Anderson about this.....maybe with enough crys from the Tech Nation they will do something about it.

I think we all agree that finding an expansive line of great Tech gear is impossible. Its just not available at any price, anywhere.

Interesting comment on how Tech licensing works, or doesn't!

The nicest piece of gear I own is a Nike Tech windshirt. I'm glad to see Nike at least in the game. Still, does anyone know the story behind the Russell stranglehold?

Carson, your statement below is incorrect.

White is one of GT's TWO primary colors, Gold and White. The NCAA states that if White is one of your primary colors, you MUST have an accent color. That does not translate into every school can use white as an accent color, though many do. It does, however, translate into GT having navy as an accent color because an accent color is mandated by the NCAA.

The most recent color guidelines issued by a GTAA Board of Trustees ad hoc committee convened for that express purpose state:

--all Tech team, band and cheerleader uniforms will be primarily white and gold with no more than 5% navy

--GTAA has no authority over school apparel beyond the uniforms listed above, but will make recommendations to the bookstore and other retailers

--Exceptions to the uniform color rules must be proposed to and approved by the AD before use. "Standing exceptions" are given for volleyball, track and swimming for reasons of modesty, golf for reasons of apparel licensing, and baseball for reason of length of season and 3-game weekend series. The exception color is always navy.

I have always wished that GT had more videos/DVDs available to commemorate certain achievements in the athletic programs ...Final Fours, National Championship, historical documentaries, etc.

Recently I have gotten into collecting newspapers covering specific sporting events of interest to me (I recently found an article covering GT's 222-0 victory over Cumberland). I like how in the Edge Athletic Center, along with the trophies, photos and information, they have entire sports pages framed commemorating special GT sports moments.

I have most of these articles, only problem is I've clipped most of them and put them into photo albums. Recent articles can be ordered from the AJC, a bit pricey though. I know this is a bit off topic and certainly providing old newspaper information is not something GT marketing has anything to do with. Still, I want to frame a lot of old sports moments and hang them in my den.

Look, basic red is available from every supplier all the time and will be for the rest of time. UGA by choosing red has a tremendous advantage in this respect. The same goes for black and white.

"OLD GOLD" is virtually not available from ANY supplier. Tech is just not big enough to go to a textile company and get them to make a run of woven old gold, nonwoven old gold, and the other thousand different materials for clothing manufacturer's to use.

We get whatever is closest to the right color.

Now the right color was made "old gold" which made it extra difficult to reproduce. I think this decision was just plain dumb, but that decision has been made.

But it really doesn't matter. Old gold, new gold, vegas gold, Notre Dame gold, is all generally unavailable when compared to primary colors like red.

The best hope we have is for a major company want to help Tech out by providing, in large quantity, a tee shirt (short and long), golf shirt (short and long), a windbreaker/pullover, a sweatshirt, and a winter jacket in the same color. I would think that only NIKE would be able to do this and even that is highly questionable.

And then every two or three years, when items change fashionwise, go through the whole process again for 100,000 fans. Good Luck!

So just get over it OR push us back to Navy Blue. That's easy to match.

Also, appreciate that they have tried over and over to do something. It just isn't that easy (I tried too). Also appreciate that the old student section of one color gold band uniforms and another color yellow Swarm has improved greatly.

BLEEDGOLD....

Thanks again for this suggestion! I went by there today during lunch to pick up a few Christmas gifts. Luckly I work up here in Duluth so lunch is the perfect time to go.
They do have the largest selection I've seen in awhile, and many things I've never seen before.

I highly recommed them to any Jacket fan!

Thanks again

This has been a satisfying, although dead horsish post. I have the privilege of traveling around to different colleges and universities for my work. I always go to their logo stores to check out their goods.

My current aggravator is the fact that we can't purchase apparel that is specific to different schools and colleges at Tech. I want a sweatshirt that says "Georgia Tech School of Industrial & Systems Engineering" - or at least one that says "Georgia Tech Engineering". The only thing I have found that says anything of the like is a bumper sticker that says "GT Engineering".

I am most proud of my Tech education and the benefit it has had to my career. Our athletic programs just embarrass us, at the moment. It is a shame that we put ourselves on the same playing field with standard "High School Part II - This Time, No Parents" schools like Clemson, VT, NCSU & ga. We should really don apparel that emphasizes our superior education.

Other schools have this, we don't. Screw marketing and sales, our alumni deserve to wear their pride.
