There ought to be a self-help group for coaches who just don't get it, with a reserved seat for Georgia Tech's Chan Gailey, who allowed Reggie Ball to become the worst four-year starter in NCAA history. Ball's completion percentage was an awful 51.7 percent as a freshman ... and got worse every year. This season he completed 44.4 percent of his passes.

You probably would have been a better choice to play QB. And you suck.

You weren't available, but as it turns out Gailey did have another option. His name is Taylor Bennett, and with Ball being academically ineligible for the Gator Bowl -- bad quarterback, bad student, bad legacy -- Bennett threw for 326 yards and three TDs. Georgia Tech still lost 38-35 to West Virginia, probably because Gailey doesn't realize his best linebackers are on the sideline with their, er, helmet in their hand.

Hey, we are just lucky to have CG.

I am sure that the Falcons, Dolphins, and Cardinals are busting down the door trying to lure Chan the Man and his resume on board.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If Chan's so great, why aren't teams busting down the AA doors to get to him. And please don't tell me that he's such a wonderful, honest man and that he'd never go back on his word. He's not being mentioned by ANYONE. At least some team would ask the AA if they could talk to him.

judging by end of the year rankings the few years before he arrived against his tenure at GT, he has acutually brought our program down. So, no wonder why no one is knocking on the door for him.

Isn't it interesting how facts can be presented? Let's compare the first five seasons of the previous coach with the first five of the present one and see what we get? Let's see that would be:

Previous coach: 36-25 = .590 winning pct
Present coach: 37-27 = .578 winning pct

2006 Not ranked in top 25
2005 Not ranked in top 25
2004 Not ranked in top 25
2003 Not ranked in top 25
2002 Not ranked in top 25
2001 Not ranked in top 25
2000 Ranked 16
1999 Ranked 19
1998 Ranked 13

What a slam dunk! O'Leary took over after Lewis brought the program to its knees, and he still has a higher winning %.
I assume you are supporting O'Leary in your post.

That's what I was waiting to hear. O'leary came in and had to reconstruct Tech football. He told me for a fact that he had some of the best athletes he had ever seen and would win immediately with these guys. But some on here seem to think otherwise.

It is interesting how facts can simply be presented as facts isn't it? You are presenting O'Leary's first five years as a comparison to Gailey's first five years. O'Leary had a little better winning percentage taking over a 1-10 football team that was left in disarray. You are presenting an entirely different point from mine.

The fact's presented in the records over the previous 10 years were to show where the program was in the previous five years prior to Gailey's five years. From a win-loss perspective, the program has declined.

Don't know if you're suggesting that I presented my facts as an attack on the current head coach, but I want the GT program to be successful. I would prefer that in five years Gailey has eclipsed O'Leary's record over his last five years here.

To be clear John, the "he" is referring to O'Leary. Meaning he had the athletes from day 1 but had to rebuild the team and program because of what went on under Lewis, right?

what the hell are they referring to about the best linebackers are on the sidelines?

He's saying since Chan is such a poor judge of talent at the QB position he probably is at other positions as well.

It's sarcasm.

The players respected O'leary more than they did lewis, so the message for the most part was put in place. So there wasn't anywhere the rebuilding of this team as some would like to believe.

Amen!!!!

I don't think that there's any question that O'Leary left the team in better shape than Lewis did, however, the difference was nowhere near as great as many would have one to believe.

I wonder what a peek at the last-half of each seasons stats would show?

Comparing O'Leary's last five years to Gailey's first five years, looking at the final four games of each season, the numbers were 14-6 from '97-'01 and 7-13 from '02-'06.
