Really can't disagree with Bark Madly

Whispers of retirement?

One thing he did not mention is the buy out: $7MM this year and $3MM next if I have it right. Might help work to keep CPJ with a football man as AD, regardless.

I don't think CPJ wants to retire; but I could see him going somewhere that doesn't have GT's built in frustrations if given an opportunity. If you've ever been in a job that was no longer fun you know the money isn't always enough to keep you there.

PJ is only 59. He came back to Statesboro already a millionaire (he's invested well).
He likes winning. He wants a chance to win at the highest level and he wants to do so without having players of marginal character.
Plus, the Hill doesn't have to worry about academic infractions with PJ around.
I really just don't see him going anywhere just yet.

No one else is going to pay CPJ damn-near $3 million/year though.

CPJ is at Tech because it is a good fit for both sides. The same is true for the military academies, which is why they all run the same offense. The tradeoff for the coaches is that, while they have to accept recruiting limitations, they get to work with players that are better students and get in less trouble, on average. There are probably several other schools that would be a good fit, as well, but CPJ indicated with his last contract extension that he wants to finish his career here. Tech is one of the highest level programs that fit the formula, but I'm sure CPJ could get an offer for similar money if he shopped around.

I've had jobs where I was willing to take a pay cut just to get out, fortunately I didn't have to. Give me 3-5 years of making $3 million/year and I could either walk away or take a lower paying job without much heartache. Keep in mind that our most successful coaches from the modern era (Curry, Ross, O'leary) left on their own. After we fired Gailey, I think he went on to make more money than we were paying him. GT must cause a lot of frustration for coaches.

All we have to do is pony up the dough and hire someone who can consistently win 10 games a year at Georgia Tech.

It's that simple.

I think there are VERY few coaches that can be as successful at GT as PJ and of those I would be fascinated if any of them actually came to GT. When you look at the quality of teams in the ACC and the fact that talent wise we will always be in the lower 1/2 (b/c of admissions) I would be very surprised to get a coach that would be more successful than PJ.

And if LIGHTNING actually struck and we did get a coach better than PJ....WHY WOULD HE STAY AT GT? ANY coach that could get us in the playoffs would warrant a 5mil salary on the open market and that is way over GT's ability to pay.

Just look at Clemson's AD. He could have stayed at a TOP ACADEMIC school OR he could go to a football factory w/ unlimited $$$$.

These sports writers have to create "buz" to justify their salaries. I would be shocked if Stansbury actually thought he could hire someone better than PJ.

LOL at Johnson's reputation for slaying giants being based on the two UGa wins. Uga was ok in 2008. They we excellent in 2014. But Johnson's reputation has been built on beating FSU and Clemson.

Bah. Give me the frustration of making $2.8 million per year regardless of how you do... any day of the week. CPJ has made enough at his tenure to GT to retire comfortably once he decides to retire. Time for him to repay the fans with another win over the ööööing dwags.

Seems like the whole point of that article was to suck Vince Dooley's cock.
