Five reasons Georgia Tech should fire Gailey if he loses to Georgia:

• 1. He would be 0-6 against Georgia in the most important game on the schedule. The longest previous losing streak for one Tech coach against Georgia is four games, in Bill Curry's first four seasons.

• 2. Regardless of what happens in a bowl game, if he loses to Georgia he will go six seasons without producing a team that finishes in the Top 25. Pepper Rodgers is the only other Tech coach to go six seasons without producing a Top 25 team. Rodgers didn't have a seventh season.

• 3. Gailey's teams never won an ACC championship. Five previous coaches proved you can win a conference title at Tech (though not all of them were ACC titles).

• 4. None of his teams won more than nine games. Seven ACC members (Boston College, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest) have produced at least one 10-victory season since Gailey came to Tech (though Miami hasn't had a 10-victory season since joining the ACC).

• 5. Enough fans have lost their enthusiasm that bringing Gailey back will mean too many unsold tickets at a time when the athletics department is thirsting for more revenue.

Geetee --welcome back.

Yep --this was posted in the ajc this morning --along with five reasons to go the other way (I think the other five were submitted by some of Gailey's kin-folk)

Five reasons to keep Gailey (copied from the AJC)

1. He is the only coach in school history who has had nothing but winning seasons. Even Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross and George O'Leary had losing seasons, and John Heisman (of trophy fame) once went .500.

• 2. Only Florida State has won more ACC games than Tech since Gailey arrived on campus. He is 28-20 in a conference far more competitive than the ACC of the 1980s and 1990s.

• 3. He has four years left on a contract that pays him more than $1 million a year, and an athletics department that has been pleading poverty has far better uses for its money than paying a football coach not to coach.

• 4. He has won despite the academic dismissal of 10 players in 2003 and NCAA sanctions that cut six scholarships from the 2006 and 2007 teams. He wasn't to blame for the NCAA rules violations or the academic issues, both caused by other people in and out of the athletics department.

• 5. His 2007 recruiting class ranked second in the ACC, suggesting good things to come. Commiting to Gailey keeps that going; hiring a new staff means starting over

These are just as legit as are the reasons for firing him, but that last one is a biggie.

I haven't been nearly impressed enough w/ what he has done w/ the talent he has to worry too much about losing a few talented recruits for only one year.

Very good point and true, too. But the other reasons are valid and makes the decision that much more difficult. JacketNation is as divided as I have ever seen it. Everyone wanted Carson fired....he had no support and had had three 4-6 years with Dodd still walking the campus. Everyone wanted Lewis run off. Pepper had become an embarassment. So this isn't going to be a walk in the park. More like that root canal that you know you have to have, but you really don't want to make the appointment.

Yukon correct on all the points I quoted. Carson was a nothing followed by and in no order, Lewis who I said after his 1st game with W. Carolina fire him today not tomorrow. Pepper was just not right for Tech from the get go. Curry began to lose support, after the defeat of Bama and the tie with ND (different years) we went north in a hurry. It's time to try to unite the fan base, and try something different. His embarrassing losses are not off set by his few big wins.

For:
The man knows how to coach running backs and how to structure the run game. If I was a stud HS running back, GT would definitely be at the top of my list. You know that you are going to be the focus of the offense.

Against:
No idea how to coach QB's. If I were a star QB, the only way I would work under Gailey is if my parents had enough cash to hire me my own personal QB coach.

Lemme ask ya, ol' fogster, if, IF you were an Alabama Athletic Supporter, would you be calling for Saban to be fired after losing to LaMonroe?

Geetee's best post ever. Too bad he's posting someone else's thoughts.

There's a big difference 'here'. Chan's had 6 years Saban finishing his lst.

We've seen enough and know what he can't do.:eek5:

Not saying we haven't seen enough of Gailey, but many were calling for his head before the end of his 1st year. If I recall correctly, ol' foggo was one, hense my question: If you were a bammer fan, would you be yelling for Saban's head on a platter now?

The AL fans are still believing they are in the Bryant days! Realistically, there's a lot more parity today. Yes, I believe AL can have a resurgence but not in one year, but surely in at least 3.

I don't know if bama folks are calling for his head but you can be damn sure if he loses to Auburn 51 - 7 next weekend then they will be.

And Alabama has been on reduced scholarships--and had Mike Shula coaching. Apples and oranges and you know it.

I'm not entirely sure Shula is any worse than O'Leary. And Chan currently has reduced scholarships.

It's apples and oranges due to the 1 year vs 6 years issue, and due to the high dollar contract, but not due to much else.

Of course not just like I supported Gailey until the 6 three's and out in the 2nd half against VPI in Atlanta when we had the game in hand only to lose!

Not true, in fact I was giving hades to MsTA, BEEWARE etc. I said give the man a chance. But after the VPI game I said he's gota go!
