but not on Scout.com.

6'4" 210 lb.Linebacker is from Pickerington, Ohio. Does anyone know if he is still a solid commit? One of the other boards mentioned something about a rumored de-commit. Is this possibly the one?

How refreshing to see a post where someone actually knows something and gives the facts. I miss the days when we could log onto the board and actually learn something.

It would be nice to have a whiners opinion section and a fact section so I can actually learn stuff.

Thanks again.

Couldn't agree more, Fly.

Shane enrolled with Jamaal Evans and Anthony Barnes two weeks ago and will be in spring practice as either a SS, FS, or LB. Anthony Barnes will start out at LB and if he keeps growing at the rate he is at he will be a DE before he is done. He is at 6-4, 235 now.

Barnes is #19 on last years class. Bowen and Evans are part of the 2006 class. I do not know why Scout continues to show otherwise. It really does not matter, because of the Jan. '06 enrollment any of the three of them could count towards last year.

Shane Bowen is an excellent ball player guys. He can run and he LOVES contact...he is a hitter.

Why would you automatically think Barnes would be moved to DE? We're chronically undersized at LB...if his speed isn't hurt, I'd love to see a 250#+ LB at Tech for a change.

I could see Barnes at middle LB or DE someday. He has very good hands so LB would be great. I believe a late int by Barnes helped Cartersville beat Westminster in the playoffs a few years ago (if I remember correctly).

Barnes is a great player.

You don\'t know how many times....

I've actually typed almost those exact words, but not posted them.

Good post!

Why would I think it? Because he could be at 255 if he continues at this pace which has always been the prototype size of a GaTech DE. Heck, Robertson will start next year at 240. Even Brooking weighed 215 to 225 most of his GT career at LB. Gathers played his best DE at 250.

Actually, it will all depend on getting the best personnel on the field. It will also depend on Barnes lateral movement, ability to read, ability to cover, etc.

If he stays at 6-4, 235...even though just a freshman...then depending on his skills he would likely stay at LB.

I would not be surprised if he ended up at either spot.

That's kind of my point. We're typically small on D and power teams run right over us, especially later in the year. It would be great for a change to have the sheer size to stand up to those teams, especially if the speed is still there. A 255 MLB with wheels would be awesome.

Someone at 6'-4" bringing heat from the corner would be a better use of those tools. You don't need height to be effective at linebacker. Height certainly helps on the line.

NCJacket...we actually did better against the power OL's this year with exception of UVA. We did fantastic against Auburn, Miami, and UGA against the run.

We seem to have our biggest problems with teams that get in a groove on the short to middle passing game because we play such an aggressive style of defense and can sometimes get caught out of position.

Our coaches have learned use our speed well against the fat boys that make up a lot of these power lines. If the QB cannot keep his cool and make the quick passing game work for them, then they are in trouble.
