The Georgia Tech staff has once again made their way to Pac 10 country for another fine football prospect. Dewitt Stuckey, a 6’ 215 lb. Linebacker from Lincoln High School in Stockton, California. Stuckey finished his junior season with 116 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. He also plays fullback on offense.

Evaluation: Stuckey lacks elite ability in one specific area, but is a quality, well rounded player at both Linebacker and Safety. He shows good quickness and a good closing burst when finding the open seam. He hits the point-of-attack with a solid base and great lower body strength. He does a good job of navigating traffic with his feet and he finds good angles to make tackles. DeWitt is nothing short of a great blitzer. He blends excellent timing and good short-area acceleration to explode into backfields and wreak havoc on the opposition. He is definitely an asset when he drops back into coverage. He consistently, gets good depth and shows a strong awareness when reading the receivers routes and the quarterback. He possesses good lateral speed, but lacks the ideal rangy frame and stride to make sideline-to-sideline plays close to the line of scrimmage. He also shows some difficulty in his change-of-direction skill and lateral mobility in space. There may be some concerns for his ability to transition into the college game.

My Analysis: Dewitt may be best suited to play Strong Safety at the next level, but he will most likely wind up at one of the Linebacker spots. He is a little undersized for Linebacker but he is a strong, athletic kid who can really tackle well. Many think that he will play Weak Side Linebacker or Safety. However, after some college weights and a red shirt, I would not be surprised to see Dewitt playing the Middle. He seems his best in between the tackles. He keeps his shoulders square and does a good job of playing downhill. Stuckey seems very interested in the Jackets. Even in interviews with other schools, he always seems to throw Tech out their as one of his favorites. Early playing time is important to Dewitt. However, I have a feeling that he will red shirt his first season at most big Division I schools. The Duck’s won the battle last year for California linebacker Malachi Lewis and I have a feeling that it may between the Ducks and Tech once again for Mr. Stuckey. He plans on taking an official visit to Atlanta later this year. It will certainly be interesting to see how this one plays out.
