Guys
The momentum is going now. Blue chip DT Jacoby Monroe had to see what was going on and came up last week, and we bumped FSU from the top spot. There is work for him to do in the classroom before he could make it past The Hill (same with 4-star DE Tony Tucker). We lead for Tucker as well and he would commit now if we could take it. btw..this was the problem with John Knox as well which would have led to a Justin Houston commit.

Now blue chip DT DeAngelo McRay from Jacksonville, FL wants to see what is going on at GT despite his soft pledge to the Gators. He is a long-time friend of Mario Butler and is coming up soon for an unofficial visit....plus come to the Notre Dame game. Long way to go with this one, but still good to see the interest.

Want another? Blue chip OT Chris Little has now taken notice and came to Tech with little notice to check us out. He has been a huge UGA lean since the beginning, with FSU, Auburn, Clemson looking in from the outside, but now Little is mentioning GT as a contender whereas he never mentioned us before.

Even rising junior prospects are wandering onto campus now and talking about committing to GT Sept. 1, which is the earliest you can get a written offer. They could commit to verbal offers sooner than Sept. 1.

Not saying we get these guys, but we are attracting attention...and this type of activity could continue for years to come as we get commitments from kids at Gainesville, Cartersville, Henry County, Charlton County, Camden County, Marietta, Chamblee, Greene County, Johnson County, and Jacksonville.

Simply amazing guys. Remember...one cannot change the past...but you can certainly change your future...and the future in recruiting looks bright.

what was up with the report that Clemson had pulled even with GT for Jones but then he committed to GT 1 day later?

This is just unreal. Just imagine how much more interest will be generated when we whip the tar out of Notre Dame.

What's going on with the Hill?

Do these player's have better academic credentials that past GA blue chipper's or has the Hill softened somewhat?
In the past I had heard that players could not even visit unless they were qualified. Just curious (and hopeful) that things are a litte more friendly there now....

I am exstatic and LOVE the GA focus. Seems like we couild build some real momentum in this state. We get a bunch of GA players who in turn recruit there friends in follwoing years. Seems a lot easier than going all over the country and starting from scratch every year.

Thanks for the additional inside information! For whatever reason I have to question if Justin Houston is wise to go to Georgia if Georgia Tech is really where his heart is.

Also, if Jacoby Monroe and Tony Tucker set their sights on doing what it takes to get admitted to Tech then it is up to Gailey and Rads to sell these guys to 'the Hill'. And I think they will!

I think this will cover everyones questions.

The Hill has not changed and Rad has not adjusted anything. We simply have done a better job of working recruits hard with the new coaches and recruiting process. Giff Smith has done a fantastic job as the recruiting coordinator and Geoff Collins in high school relations. The unofficial visits and camps are done with remarkable coordination and it started with the Junior Days. We identified talented kids that could cut it academically and went after them hard...and obviously successfully. There are still many many that we cannot take.

As far as the Clemson article...I think it was a combo of Roddy being nice to the Clemson guy and the Clemson guy putting his own slant on it....with a tad of drama thrown in.

Another factor

It was well known at least a year ago that this is would be a deep class in Georgia, much deeper than last years class.

RM--you are correct, building connections with high school coaches is a long and continuing process.

Hivered: You may have answered some questions but you failed to answer mine. LOL

Now you mention Jacoby Monroe and Tony Tucker as needing to work hard in order to qualify.....

Now if Tech is recruiting these kids very hard.....if these kids are putting off schools with scholarship offers that they already would qualify for.....because they want to sign with Tech.....and are working very hard in the classroom to qualify to get into Tech.....and then if they come in as 'borderline' or a tad below.....then I can expect Gailey and Rads to go to bat for them.....and be successful doing so.

Am I wrong? Please be specific if you can.

Don't forget Butch Brooks and the groundwork he laid.

Butch Brooks laid a good road, but then when his responsbilities were changed by Braine....it was shot to heck.

I have heard some details about how the Junior Days, camps, and unofficial visits are being organized...and I am seriously impressed. It is marketing & communications genius.

Well, it gets a little more complicated. You have to look at how many players you have lost due to academics, transfer, etc. You have to look at how many of your current players will graduate within the NCAA required amount of time. Additionally, you have to look at the academic risk factors for the players you have taken verbals from so far. There is one already, and one to come, that will be in because of showing academic progress from grade 9 to 11.

You take all of that together to estimate your graduation rate...then look at your overall student body graduation rate...and make sure that you will meet the NCAA graduation rate requirements so that you DO NOT LOSE ANY SCHOLARSHIPS.

All of that being said, the coaches have been with Tucker for a long time and like him...and it is reciprocated. Just guessing here...but it may take some fall classes to see if he wants it. This is the same deal with Sacoby Carter...test and class for him...progress in the coming months?...we will see.

It is early yet for Jacoby Monroe. The entire staff will review each player in total at their recruiting staff meetings and decide if they think its a fit. This is after input from not just CG, but the recruiting coordinator (Giff Smith), Geoff Collins, the recruiting coach (Buddy Geis), and position coach (Giff Smith in this case)...as well as some input from other coaches like Jean-Marie, etc.

I am not going to argue with anything they decide to do this year....they are doing a phenomenal job. We all know that DE/DT positions have been our most challenging over the years...but the past couple years we have just seeme to nail that one down (Richard, Anyaibe, Johnson, Anoai, Walker, Robertson, Brown, etc.)

hivered, one question. With the new ratings on progress towards degree (can't remember the actual name of it) does graduation rate even matter anymore? I thought that as long as a player was in good standing when he/she left, it basically had no real impact on whether a team lost scholarships or not. Isn't that right?

Hivered: Thank you for your response. I understand what you are saying. I understand the risk factors and how we can't afford to have players failing to advance once they get here.

Now....as an example....Jacoby has an offer from Tech. With all the mitigating factors considered, does Gailey and staff have new found leeway to exercise their own judgement and go ahead and bring him in if he ends up 'borderline' or just below?

I have not heard of any of the current commits, or commits to come in the coming days/weeks, requiring exceptions. I also am not aware of any changes in not requiring the request of an exception either. I think this year is a deep year in Georgia where the kids also had the grades...combined with a vastly different recruiting approach that is effective on the targets.

Carter, Monroe, and Tucker all have conditional offers based on acceptance. i would bet the coaches have a pretty good plan together as to how they would like to see it shake out. Remember there is a lot of explaining to be done around Monroe as well...he also had a self-reported 2.5 GPA coming into the summer. There is no telling what the transcript says. I would bet Tucker and Carter are much further along.

You bring up an excellent point. There was a lot of discussion around this because the original proposition did not take into consideration a players current academic standing when they either went pro or transfered. It would be logical to consider that, but I am not sure this recommendation passed...but again I cannot remember. I think the argument against that was the NCAA wanting to also prevent coaches from "running players off"...which the recommendation would not have addressed. From a GT standpoint, most kids who leave our program tend to not do so under good academic standing.

What are our chances 1-10 that we could actually pick up a few of these guys mentioned above?
Especially McRay,Little, Dwyer, & Everson? Any progress on Everson stepping up & committing or is it still going to come later on?>> With our spots going SO FAST the guys who have offers will begin to feel the pressure to committ or miss out....LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.....so great to see so much happening so EARLY....Keep up the good work & love to hear about our current committs calling other recruits & inviting them to be part of SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL!!!!
