I think P.J. needs to grab him as our new DC before Ugag or someone else does..:fingersx:

Hahaha, yeah, because Croom really defended Tech well this year.

I was going to raise the question soon - grading the defensive coaches vs the talent we have? I was going to wait however.

I REALLY SHOULD HAVE WAITED TOO...Maybe 24 hours and let everyone enjoy this great win..

But, facts are facts and we need a change at DC if we are to win championships.....

No we don't. We need 11 healthy starters. What we did on D today with the bandaid depth chart we have is miraculous. Put Sed and JWD and Bowen on that field and we shut those losers OUT.

I love your enthusiasim, but as Hivered said earlier, we couldn't stop Fsu,Unc or Uva much less ugag today...We can NOT keep playing this lousy of defense and expect greatness...We will have the offense, but we have to build a championship defense to win 12+ games or a championship, has always been that way in football, defense wins championships..
 
Give Wommack 11 healthy starters and some good backups and I think he would impress the most skeptical fan.

As it stands, we had some pretty respectable stats even with a patchwork depth chart.

I knew we would have a tough time stopping UGa - I just never dreamed we'd score 45.
 
agreed we must improve on defense but there doesnt need to be a changing of coordinators or anything like that. our back seven will only lose A.Barnes and JWD. and with the amount of youngsters we played this year on D they will have some game experience. Great move by Wommack and Giff Smith by rotating our D-line all season long and getting reps to the fellas. Ben Anderson, Jason Peters, and Derrick Morgan will be a decent to good group up front to go along with our very talented back seven who should be very scary. O yeah dont we have a ton on offense coming back we only lose three offensive lineman by my count am i wrong.
 
Wommack is good. Our LB crew was not that great and then became decimated with injuries. I think Wommack shows us something in the bowl game. He knows how to coach and we will get better. He needs healthy bodies.
 
I have to say, CPJ really hasn't ever had a defense. Even at GSU, it was "score as many points as possible" and at Navy as well (see 07 N. Texas game against Navy). I think we're in good hands though..:)
 
If we had LB's like Wheeler today, we would have held them to at least 2-3 TD's less. Not an indictment on the current corps' talent. They are just really young, and the team is decimated by injuries.

Our defense is MUCH more balanced right now. A great example is simply the number of INT's we have.

Also, we have fumbled the ball a LOT more this year, and had many more turnovers (on downs, and fumbles, etc) on our own side of the field.

We also did not have a punter of Brook's caliber to give them a long field to defend every time.

Wommack has made some great adjustments this year, and although we gave up a bunch of yards today we just don't have the horses at DB to keep up with those guys. If we had a shut-down corner, we'd be a ton better on defense.

Plus, taking away Ced Griffin really hurts, his ability to get to the QB on the blitz was huge for us this year.

My only issue with the game today was not picking up the screen and not getting pressure on Stafford.

you must be kidding...we have one rough game defensively and you want a new coordinator? This GT team was Top 15 in the nation in defense all year long.
He also made things a little better in the second half.

UGA has one of the top offenses in the country....check out the scoring offense numbers.

PLUS:
Jahi did not play
Reese tried but could not play
Vance tried...but could not play many snaps
We lost 1st string LB Sedric Griffin
We lost 2nd string LB Shane Bowen
AT Barnes left halfway with an injury...so true frosh Sylvester had to play quality minutes.
Morgan got dinged up and had to sit out a good bit...forcing Hall and Egbuniwe into action.
We played 2 true freshman the entire game in the secondary...Reid and Taylor.

We had youth everywhere this year.

Fire Wommack and hire Croom....good freakin grief.

That was probably a little harsh, but like you were saying the other day, we couldn't stop Fsu, and now this game against Georgie, I know P.J. can't be happy with our defense. I have re-watched the game on tape 2 times now and P.J. was disgusted for sure during the game with all those points given up, and I feel he will recruit/fix the problems. I will give Wommack another year and see.

I just don't want us to longe-range become like his Navy teams scoring bunches of points with no defense...We have to build a stout defense (A lot better than what we have seen this last half of the year) in order to win championships. UK and Auburn held Ugag to 24 and 17 respectively, we are better than both of those teams and should do a lot better defensivley.
