How was the reffing this game? I was only able to catch the radio broadcast and it seemed like every pass in the 2nd half had "lots of handfighting" and was borderline pi.

And the receiver getting tackled on the fake punt before the ball even got there sounded like an intentional f-up.

My body can't take going back and watching the game.

There is no protection for a receiver on a fake punt play I believe.

It was extremely bad but had basically no impact on the beat down we received

Interesting. I thought it'd still be treated like any other forward pass.

According to CPJ if the play had been executed like it was designed and practiced the receiver would have been protected like any other forward pass; but since we made it appear as a simulated punt during the game he wasn't.

I thought there were at least two egregious PI calls against duke not called. I am also biased and am probably ignoring egregious PIs that were not called against us. Thwg.

Eh, they held a lot more than normal and I felt like a few egregious ones on the perimeter and by their tackles should have been called a few times, but it is what it is -- Not like pushing them back only 10 yards would have helped anyway.

On the no-calls for pass interference on several of our long bombs... I don't really blame the refs for that. TQM has unfortunately really underthrown most of the long bombs. That forces the WR to slow down, allows the CB to close the gap, and results in a jump ball. Frankly, Jeune has made some pretty good catches. TQM has thrown very few good long passes. (The Stewart TD pass against VT is a clear exception. That was perfectly in stride.)

I thought the lack of holding calls was a factor in the game. Our lack of energy and execution in the second half was why we lost, though.

Agree completely with the lack of holding calls. Also, I saw a pretty blatant face mask and a couple of pass inteferences that did not get called. Doubtful they would have made a difference in the game...

There was a mega late oob hit on Devine during one of the three stooges ST plays iirc. Duke has been a dirty af team under Cutcliffe.

This. There was one drive when they made a terrible pi call against us and it gave Duke a td. I think we may have actually been able to stop them that drive (or hold them to a fg) had that bad call not been made.

Kind of like some of Dukes basketball games. They don’t need the help from the refs, but the refs are happy to give it anyway.
