Reminds me of '89

This win over VPI really reminds me of the big win at Clemson in 1989. They had been ACC champs 3 years in a row, they had pounded us 3 years in a row, but we went up there and clobbered them thoroughly. That was a real "statement" game.

I doubt we can count on the same results we got that time (we went 16-1-1 over our next 18 games), but it has the same feel to it.

Wasn't there some point in the game where the ABC broadcasters compared the stats of the 1990 defense in their first three games and the stats of the 2006 defense in their first three games.

Like I said in an earlier thread, it's sad that ND got away with a win. Before VPI, I would have never thought we would have silenced that crowd and score so easily in the first quarter against that VPI defense. I think so much more of this team now, to the point where we look probable to win every game left on our schedule except for perhaps Clemson.

Yes. The number of turnovers the 1990 defense generated dwarfed us, believe it or not. Some of the yardage numbers were similar.
