Its refreshing to see these football recruits who seem sometimes to be only about "show me the love" to be as perceptive as this young man. From Greg Shaw one of the big OL recruits that WVU, and GT are fighting over and up until recently WVU was leading....

There is another team that is trying to make a run at Shaw and he had a strong message for them.

Michigan is not in it!” Shaw said with a laugh, “I’m not going to play football in Michigan, I’m good with that. All of a sudden Coach Rodriguez goes to Michigan and they are calling saying that the weekend I was supposed to go to West Virginia I could come there and everything would work out. I’m not going. It didn’t feel right the way he left and it’s not a school I’m interested in.”

I got to hand it to Shaw who calls a spade a spade. I like this kid, I hope we get him.

I am amazed that Rich Rodriguez is dismayed and doesn't understand why the WVU fans are so pissed off at him. It does NOT take a rocket scientist to figure it out. The guy's an alumnus and said, last season, that he was around for the long haul and hoped to retire at WVU. One year later he bolts for UMich?

I get that this is a business and that UMich is a bigger job than WVU. It's his right to change his mind and decide to go to UMich. But don't be so shocked when people are unhappy about it.

its much worse than that, really
first he calls recruits as coach for WV and tells them NOT to commit to WV, that he is going to Meesheegan (like Terrell Pryor)
then he wont pay them the $4MM that is in his contract b/c of some bs excuses
and to make it better by trying to get out of paying the money with his excuses, he is also fracturing the fanbase, especially among the influencial

it has not been a good thing for the state

i am very impressed with their interim coach, and all the praise he has gotten from others in the business. his team looks great!

I see no problem with Rodriguez leaving WV for Michigan.. its a huge step up. Unlike some douchebag leaving GT for Alabama which is a lateral move at best..

I think opinions are very divided on the second issue, and in a different thread.

People at WVU are understandably upset with Rodriguez and he just needs to get over it. But they are also very upset with the AD because they think he didn't do anything to keep the coach when it would have taken only minimal effort to do so.

The reason that people in WV are pissed at Rodriguez is not that he went to Michigan, but how he handled it. First, it is true that he called key recruits and told them not to commit to WVU while he was still on their payroll (which is why Terrell Pryor was the one that leaked the story to one of the online 'scouts'). Second, he didn't even bother to deliver his resignation in person. He has one of his student assistants do it. Third, he's trying to renege on his contract by saying that WVU didn't live up to it, when he was the one required to give them written notice of any breaches and he never did so.
